I've been trying to blog for the longest time. I write and write and write and then all of a suddent I just run out of things to blog about. And then my blog goes pfffft even before it gets anyone's attention. Now that I'm trying my hand at it again, I'd like to ask you guys for tips on how you conquer dry spells like these? How do you not run out of fresh bright ideas to write about?

This is an interesting question as it also happens to me sometimes. Don't worry, it also happens to top bloggers. Incidentally, I made a post about 2 months ago entitled What to do when you cannot think of a Good Post. While there are many ways on how to do it, I only wrote some of them that I think is applicable to everyone and the easiest things to do. Here are my thoughts. 1.0 Listen to good music - this is because music can help us relax and re-fresh our minds. 2.0 View other blogs - by doing this, you will somehow get ideas that may bring your interest again. Reading comments can also help. 3.0 Take a cool shower - this will only make you comfortable, but I believe that cold water may make you feel like you're in a fine beach or falls perhaps which is very relaxing. 4.0 Read your previous posts - by reading them, you may able to think of making a second part or even a series. You can even re-write them to emphasize some valuable points. 5.0 Do not force your self - I think this is the most important of them all. Forcing yourself to make a post that is not really valuable may only affect your blog. It is better to take a rest than to publish an ugly post. Hope that helps.

Thanks so much fatherblogger! I've been trying to get a lot of inspiration from everything around me just so I can put publish something new in my blog. I guess you're right. I mustn't force myself too much and publish something I'm not so satisfied with. ;)

I totally agree with your tips. I would rather take a break in blogging than do a forced entry. Sometimes it just won't do. I learn a lot from past blogging experience, but the majority of the time, I just want to improve my writing and blog for fun so it's not a big deal with me. For me, I usually shift topics from whatever I feel like at that moment. But mostly I post reviews from books, tv series/ movies, or music so I can go back and blog every time I finish something in those category. I do agree with others about reading new material or previous entries though. I went back to read my like several days ago and I realize my pattern had change over the years. Sometimes there might be the most boring or most irrelevant (to you when you go back and read) entry that you came up with at that moment, but that would just help you see what to avoid in the future or what you might be better at writing or you can improve in those areas if you do want to write more in that particular area.

Dear mona, it is a common problem with many bloggers at the initial stage. If you really love the subject you are blogging, you can not run away. My favorite blog is about fiber optics technology. I read many articles online and offline about fiber optics and gather news and market report as part of my profession. Also they are helpful for me to blog. You have to start blogs on the subjects you love to read or write or discuss. This way you can avoid pffffts.. haaahhaaaha, I like that pfffffft !!

hi aryajayaprakash! Wow! You've got a blog on fiber optics technology?! Well, that's some pretty heavy stuff to blog about. I guess, I really should get back to reading new stuff about business (which is what my blog is all about) and maybe I'll come up with something fresh. Thanks for the tip!

I have experienced being a blogger's block many times already in years. And for these times, what i do is i stop writing or typing. I will do something else and when that time comes that i will have my ideas to write comes, i will start writing again. Sometimes, i also put my blog in a hiatus mode, so i can miss my blog.

My advice... Read a lot... Read anything that comes your way... Books, blogs, newspaper articles, novels, magazines... Then try to write a post about one of the topics that you have read.. Initially your blog may feel a bit plagiaristic.. So try to write the article in your own words.. Over a period of time you'll develop ur own style and wil know how and when to write what... Running out of matter won't be a problem anymore because you'll be learning how to make the blog more interesting and captivating with the minimum of matter available... good luck

Hi, koolakhil4u! I'm trying to read as much as i can and trying hard to catch up on blogs about blogging and how to improve my skills. then again, as you said, it's gonna take time and a whole lot of practice before i can really develop my own style...I guess, I'll just have to discipline myself to come up with at least one GOOD post everyday so i can really brush up on my writing skills. Your advice is very much appreciated. Thanks!
