Years ago on a holiday at a holiday camp a young girl went up on the stage during the evening, the guy asked her name and she said India. I had never heard of a girl being called India. Does anyone on here know any young girl with the name India?

I've heard it before but don't know anyone named it personally. I do have a family in law member named China though. I think they are both very pretty names for girls.

That may by out of fun spoken by the girl, since it was a stage in a holiday camp! I haven't heard any such name of a girl. But we have a very popular name for girls, that is 'Indira', nearly same as he letters in the name 'India'. It is the other name of 'Laxmi', the Godess of wealth and prosperity! Thanks for this nice discussion!

There is a singer named India.Arie. I also know an India, but she isn't the one you are talking about. She lives in my state so I doubt you've seen her in your country. : )

I haven't come across any real person called India. However, there is a character called India in Margaret Mitchell's "Gone with the Wind." Ashley, for whom Scarlett has the hots, has a sister called India Wilkes. So, I guess there might be a few people called India in the world, though it is a rather unusual name. Cheers and happy mylotting
