Come to think of it, why are they called ladybugs? They don't resemble anything like ladies or have anything to suggest femininity.

You still call it a ladybug. It is a ladybug. That's the name of the species. But if you prefer to call it by it's Latin name so as to not upset the manliness of a male lady bug, you can call him a Coccinellid.
