So I'm back, its been awhile with summer and the kids out of school its just been crazy. My son is very smart, has a lot of energy and gets distracted easy....sooo everyone thinks he's add or adhd and I should put him on drugs. I refuse to go there, he was tested last year and was found to have an above average IQ. He would get very bored at school and not pay attention and well wasn't learning, so I pulled him out and began to home school. He wasn't happy about it and we struggled a lot last year. He told me this summer that he thought if he didn't do good at home school I would send him back to public school. I informed him that it backfired and now he is not up to the grade level needed to go to public school. He has been working very hard to get his grade level up, we even started before the school year began. He really wants to do good this year so he can go back to school next year full time. He does attend school at the Spokane Valley Learning Acadamy one day a week and then works with an IEP Teacher for three hours a week. He is doing much better this year but still is having a hard time focusing. I spoke with his IEP Teacher today and she mentioned that he did very well in class but whenever she turned her back he would start fidgiting and get distracted. When we work at home I have to sit with him the hole time to keep him focused. My question is, is there anyone out there that has already been in my shoes and is there anything that I can do to teach him how to stay focused. Please, please help me help my son. I believe with a little understanding and a lot of hard work I can help my very inteligent son to succeed without the use of drugs!
