Do they only get smart when they are asking the questions?
Do we get some of those stupid questions here on mylot?

I have been in many situations during my life where I have asked a question which in my opinion was far from stupid but the person on the receiving end answered me with 'don't ask stupid questions!'.
This could have been either because it WAS a tupid wuestion or because the person did not know or was not willing to reveal the answer.
To this day I have never understood WHEN a question can be considered to be a stupid one. Your answer has not helped my dilemma either

I think i get it, what is stupid to someone is not stupid to everyone! I asked this question because i have received those kind of replies as well before.
Its the person who is answering who might consider a qustions stupid because of how unstupid they think they are.
Some people rush to say a question is stupid before they even know exactly what the question is asking!

Well stupidity is redefined as per the person!!
Edison was a very stupid student(his teacher say;as he had a lot of questions), then he became a scientist,just in finding the answers of his stupid questions.
All I want to say is that you can't say that someone is having something stupid;there must be some reason behind that,which is only known to that person.

From an ex-teacher's perspective, no question is a stupid question. Every question has its own merit. It would be more stupid not to ask the question if you need to know or clarify something.

That is how people learn: from asking questions.
They wouldn't really ask you then, it would seem stupid to you but to them, they really have no idea or they are just asking you what do you think. I've seen a lot of questions here that are not really worth answering anyway, I think they just ask it for the sake of posting that question, not really to get answers or opinions.

I would say, we ask stupid questions depending on what those answering the questions think of them. I personally do not think there might be stupid question depending on who asks the question. Most of the questions are silly but not stupid and most of the times we misunderstand them

I work in and snswering service- answering phones all night
and I hear so many stupid questions. you wouldn't believe it..
this is nothing. some of these i think are just so they can start a discussion and make money.
But the ones i hear are truly amazing..
