I love dogs but...

Don't get me wrong. I love dogs, but not as much as i love humans. SO i wonder how (because i really could not relate) most dog lovers treat their pets the way they treat their own babies. When i see my aunt buy designer baby clothes for her 6 cute dogs, i can't help but feel envious. Those clothes would look nice on my boys. She would spend thousands for their vitamins, food, and even toys. Why is this so? I really want to understand...even some celebrities' dogs have luxuries ordinary human beings could not even afford. Maybe if i begin to understand, i might also learn to treat dogs the same but then im not sure if i could still watch news about other hungry children while my dogs are feasting on hotdogs, sausages, and lean meats.

Two thing: one most people who buy the really high end stuff don't have kids. two they have the money to spend. My MIL has a cow that we buy our animals organic food, the birds are often fed meals, and the cats get wet food every day (and not that cheap BS either). my Aunt has no kids, she is single and has 2 dogs. They won't wear clothes, but they have a ton of different collar, get high end food, and the best medical treatment money can buy. Design clothes are a bit much, but our animals deserve the same quality of life that we have. I would feel bad if I was eating all organic yet buying our cats crappy Supermarket level food filled with Ash, filled and meat by products.

I feel guilty when i eat a realy meaty meal while my dog eats only the bones. Of course they do deserve to be given quality treatment, but the kind that's for animals. That is what i believe in. Because if they are given the same quality of life that we have...what about the rest of the hungry people in most parts of the world? I think we should draw some line between loving animals and humanizing them, because there are people out there who wish they could turn into animals so they would be treated like human beings. Ironic but true, and sad.

For every 1 animal you see treated wonderfully there are probably 20 (or more) that are treated like crap. I feel bad about the starving people of the word, a lot of the time those folks in other countries are hungry because their government won't let the food in. Billions of dollars of donated food go to waste because of such things every year. Animals do deserve good treatment. We bring them into our home and pretty much control whether they live or die by choosing which dog or cat we bring home from the shelter. I would rather donate $1000 each year to save the animals that will otherwise be euthanized than give money to the poor. Maybe that is wrong, but there a lot of organizations that are out there helping the people who can't afford food and not as many saving animals from untimely deaths.

I get your point. I am with you on the fact that there are plenty of international organizations geared towards feeding the hungry worldwide. And i can see only a few organizations that help maltreated animals. Even Oprah featured in her show something about adopting a stray. It moved me to tears to see those sick and dying dogs. But choosing between giving charity for the hungry children and donating to animal shelter, i would choose to do the former. But then you know, i think those pets of rich owner should give up their luxuries and have their owners donate to the shelter. These are the people whom i believe should feel guilty for spoiling their pets too much to the point of spending too much money which is better off donated to other animals.

Some dog lovers if no all treat their pets like their own babies and they don't really think twice in spending a lot of money for them.I have a team mate who would rather have dogs than kids ( that's what she told us ) i don't know why but she said its much easier to take care of dogs than human. Happy mylotting!

Now great one there! It is indeed "easier to take care of dogs than human." I can stop questioning and wondering now. How simple was that? I never really thought of that reason. It is also better to spoil someone you have no deep connections with, at least in the end you won't regret and feel sorry about how much money you have lost because of that...

I am into dogs both breeding and showing. When I take care of a dog, I make it a point that he gets the best food and medical attention of a vet. If I cannot afford that I prefer not to own a dog at all. I don't want a dog to suffer under my care. On the other hand I understand that there are a lot of hungry children dying in poor world countries. Are dog breeders who spend lots of money on dogs who are the culprits that these hungry children are dying? Or is it the government's bad policy who prefer to invest in arms and military?

The value of an animal life despite precious and we should not be cruel to them does not compare to that of a human being. Therefore seeing famine and people dying because of hunger is an issue that worries me a lot. I treasure more human life and I do contribute towards this issue. Collections for charities for poor people in my country have been going on for ages. Maltese people are generous and give a lot of money to those in need. But has this changed anything in the international political scene? Has poverty stopped? I have my doubts.

Then to clear up my confusion, i should think that the hungry is not my problem but of the government's. You do have a point though concerning the government's policy on investing more in arms than in feeding programs, but i just want to know if big dog lovers personally prefer spending more on dogs than on humans.

maybe they see on their dogs what we see on our kids, when I think sometimes, I a thinking of owning a dog too when the kids are already big (I am not a dog lover but I think it is the only way to save me from boredom)and I think I could much love to the dog as much as I have loved my kid when they are younger, I mean I think I would care for the dog like it is my own baby. maybe you should try owning one

I think Dogs should not at all be treated like humans, people keep dogs like their own kid, thats really stupid. I think dogs should only be kept is for security, because its a smart animal and can help people. But people cry and do stuff like that when thier dog gets sick or die. Its a animal, its place is in its cage/dog house not in humans bedroom sleeping next to them.

My dogs are my kids, plain and simple. They get the best I can give them, and according to people who know my dogs, they're "spoiled rotten". I don't dress my dogs in clothes, but they do have free run of the entire house 24 hours a day, steps leading up to the beds, couch, and recliner so that they don't have to jump, toys everywhere, they're fed a great diet consisting of human quality food and a little premium dog food, they get vitamins and they go to the vet more often than I go to the doctor.

I think they are very rich. So, they can buy their dogs everything. This is how they live with themselves

I agree with you some people really baby dogs. I have no room to talk I love my puppies and they wear playboy and paygirl outfits. It's very easy to understand with women who don't have children or who are unable to have children, but in other ways I can say wow that's too much. I love my animals but definately will tend to my families needs first and foremost and then the animals. They are beautiful animals. And will take care of them any way that I can, however, my children come first. Great discussion.

My dogs are my babies. I do not dress them. but they get everything they need. Food , love, vet care. my dogs go to the doctor more often than I do. Because I made the choice to bring them into my life it is my responsibilty- just like it would be that of a mother having a child.. to take care of them the best i can thru their whole life. I do not throw them away just because my life has changed. I change my life to make their life more pleasant. I bought my house so that my dogs would have a big back yard to play in. I bought a Suv car so that I could take all my dogs together for a ride. I feel for the hungry humans of the world. but the humans have a control over their own life. If they can't feed thier children shouldn't they not have so many. If I couldn't feed all my animals I would not have so many. I would rather be in the company of my animals than humans anyday. they give you unconditional love. and they don't use you or stab you in the back or betray you or any other such thing that humans are capable of.

I think,we shud leave tht upon the respective owners. If they can afford to provide their pets such luxuries, then who are we to comment on them??If they treat their pets like their babies,it may b b'cos they consider them as their babies.

maybe people need something after thier kids have gotten thier own family and need something to occupy them. for example dogs! my anut is also like ures after her kids went away she got a new dog. also if their treat thier dogs better then humans something is wrong. maybe the people ahve grown up ith dogs all of thier lifes. thats why thier respect them so much because theey love them. a easy way to show love to them is buying them things
