I requested to work 3 16 hours per week (one on Monday, one on Wednesday, and one on Friday), the schedule manager's assistant said it's pretty possible since those are the job's main days, but the man himself told me "That would put you at...... 48 hours, how about we do this...." I was upset because another co-worker of mine had gotten something similar to this and it was no problem, but with me there's a problem? Mind you, I'm an EMT for a private company in NY. If I could have gotten those 3 16 hour shifts, I could easily make ends meet with that over time, because all they're paying me is $11 an hour. With 3 16 hours a week, I can get close to $500 after tax instead of the usual $360 after tax. Instead he gave me 40 hours Tuesday-Friday. Whoopie doo. I've decided for two weeks a month I could just pick up an extra 10 hr or 8 hr shift, that way I'll have two weeks of overtime per month. Thoughts?
