i just hate it when i go to work and walk past
people and say "good morning" and they just look at you like you stupid.
when i say good morning to someone i expect them to reply back.
but i learned that some people just dont talk to you.
so now i ignore them like they ignore me.

i've worked with people like this.
they ignore the good morning.
they also ignore my how are you ?
i asked someone why they did this.
oh, they replied.
i thought it was a rhetorical statement and
didn't need a reply.
no, i said.
this is how it usually goes.
i say good morning.
then you reply good morning to me.
her reply? why bother.
well, i said, it sets a nice tone to the day.
her reply? why bother.
so, i don't bother her any longer !
it's the simpliest gesture.
it's not to be a power trip.
it's not to be about control.
it's simply, good morning.

I usually don't speak to strangers unless I'm spoken to- I do smile at people who are walking toward me and if they speak I do reply. Sadly, common courtesy is just like common knowledge these days.... not so common anymore.
I was actually shocked yesterday by this though. I was at the zoo with my neice and it was raining so we went inside a little resturaunt at the zoo to get something to eat and wait out the rain. An Amish man and his son walked in and I smiled and nodded- not expecting anything in return since in the past they have all just glared at me and kept walking. This man smiled and said "good morning"- I was pleasently surprised, and said "good morning to you too".

Different cultures and different people have different ways they interact with people around them. Some cultures are very friendly and outgoing and friendly; others are very reserved and do not want to interact.

good morning missybear
. I was thinking about something similar when I saw your post, I am a bit of an introvert so I do not always manage to get my words out especially to a stranger but I do try to smile instead. that made me wonder if you just smiled to a complete stranger for example while passing each other in a crowded bus, some people smile back some don't, now how difficult could this be? what reason would people have for not smiling?
