with my computer it slows down sometimes and i will go and get the crap cleaner and let that take care of deleting all of my cookies and things like that that i don't really need...and then i will run the defrag and get that done for a little while and that is about all i know how to do to get my computer to speed up, so i was just wondering if anyone else has any ideas of how to keep my computer running fast, what do you usually do? thanks for taking the time out of your day to read and review my discussion and maybe answering my discussion, i hope that you all had a great weekend and i hope that your night and the rest of the week this week is a great week for you, thanks again for taking the time!

I found that every so often it's good to wipe out everything and start over. It helps if you have another computer that you can use to store everything important while you do this process. Having a freshly installed system makes for much better performance especially since over time you build up a lot of junk that slows things down.

clean comp - computer
I try and keep my computer clean. I use CCleaner to clean my cookies, history and all that junk and I run my spy-ware and virus-ware stuff about once a week or so to clean up anything that might be on the computer. I also will clean off my videos and pictures after i get so many. I will put them on CD's and then delete them from my computer to give me some more space, plus it makes my computer run faster with less junk on it oh, and i also do that for my music... and every once in a while i will re-format the computer so i can have a fresh start. i love how it runs after i delete my hard-drive. it feels so brand new lol i wish it ran like that all the time!

I will give you the BEST quick fix (that i know of). 1) go to 'start' on your pc 2) choose: RUN 3) type 'msconfig' 4) then choose the 'start up' tab 5) go through the list and find applications that you don't need to start up every time you use the computer and un check the box these programs run in the background and take away from your computers speed. they are often programmed to startup every time by default (which is dumb). Note: all these programs will still work but will take a couple of extra seconds to start up (since they weren't already launched at start up) examples: Microsoft office (unless you use it every single time then uncheck the box) Important: the list of applications is not clearly labeled and it is often hard to know what a program is [look under the 'command' column for hints] if you can't figure out which program it is talking about then you might want to think twice before un-checking it. Although, on the other hand, most programs don't need to startup right away. EXCEPT anti-virus/spyware etc. software - leave those!

When I find my computer work slowly, I used to use defragment, but not now. I delete some of the cookies and something that I don't need in my computer to make it faster. Good day, jhl.

Nothing really, its the office computer. They see about it. The internet service here in Trinidad is provided by the telephone company, the national one, and there is a second one provided the the cable company, a monopoly that has all Trinidadians cussing out loud. So, when it rains like it is now, you can expect nothing but the slowest net in the world right at your fingertips. Know what I mean ?

I used to have DEEP FREEZE, because most of the time when the computer is bugged up with viruses, it tends to run slow..having deep freeze, whenever your computer is infected, you can just shut it down and all the viruses are all gone, bringing it back to its old good state of functioning..oh and to mention that the history of the site you've just visited, the cookies, the downloaded files and programs will be gone..a clean slate!! problem regarding this?! you can't save anything in the hard disk itself, or you can have time to unfreeze it so that you can go and save your most precious file and do things you wanted to be retained in your computer..

Generally every couple of days I do a disk clean up through system tools. I clear my cookies every week or so. I try to run a disk defrag once a month or so...and make sure that my antivirus software is updated and running scheduled scans. SO far i havent had too many problems..also i have a spyware protection software.

Another thing that helps is to actually "clean" your computer. Towers fill with dust which can contribute to how your computer runs. We just hook up an air compressor and blow out the tower and keyboard. You have to be especially careful not to touch anything though. If your worried about doing it yourself you can take it in to be done.

I use quite a few techniques to keep my computer running at a stable pace. I clear my cookies and temporary internet files. I scan my computer by a licensed anti virus and anti spy ware every Sunday. I keep refreshing the computer after a few hours of continuous surfing. These are the best methods to keep your computer running at its optimum ability.

I suggest you free up your disk space if you are using desktop or your memory space if you're using laptop. Having almost full memory is one of the reasons why computer slows down. So maybe you want to back up those files that you don't use much, burn it into a disc or something and shut down every once in a while.

Every week I run CCleaner on my computer to clean up all the cookies as well as fix all the problems in the registry. This practice has made my computer to run at its optimum speed and so far I am happy with the results. I haven't gone into defrag yet as the size of the hard disk may take a long time to defrag but if the CCleaner can no longer help, I will definitely run the defrag to make sure that the disk usage is optimized. So far, those are the only two things that I use for my computer and as if this time, they are sufficient to handle any problems on my computer. Hope that helps. Cheers!
