new telemarketing scheme

I don't know if this is just in New England, but lately we are getting a lot of telemarketing calls from supposedly local numbers. The caller id shows a number with a local prefix and when you answer it's a recording for satellite companies etc, mainly satellite companies though. I tried calling a couple of them back to ask to be taken off their lists and lo and behold... they were disconnected numbers. I called back right after they called me! Does this happen to you? I know there are programs for people to do this and that's annoying enough but to not be an inservice number just seems unfair and even illegal. How do you feel about these kinds of calls? Do you get them where you are?

Telemarketers and network marketers are about the same. They are like flies. Unfortunately, you can't swat the telemarketers and network marketers...LOL

Unfortunately that's too true, however you are supposed to be able to tell them to not call, calling from a disconnected number makes that impossible. I'm hoping to get some help from state with that though. It's bad enough when a real person calls and you can tell them to not call again but this is ridiculous.

Generally I just hang up on them because I hate recorded messages, then when I tried calling back was told the numbers are no longer in service. Seems like it must be illegal, I'm going to call the attorney general today and see if there's anything they can do to block this stuff.
