It's so hot, I can't sleep - are you spoiled by air conditioning?

Our a/c went out and I'm too cheap to pay extra for someone to come out on a weekend so we are toughing it out. So it's 890 degrees inside and I can't sleep. Fans just don't get it when they blow hot air. Do you have air conditioning? Are we just too spoiled in the states by it that we can't live without it? Could you live without it for a week, a month, a year?

Thanks for the suggestion, maybe I will explore the world of heating and air conditioning repair!

Hi there kimberlylynn! I live in a city where an aircon is not a need. It's rather cold up here practically whole year round. I can sleep comfortably even with an aircon. We do have natural aircon up here. There are several trees, particularly pine trees several meters away from my room's windows. When it's a little humid, all I have to do is to sleep with my windows open. It is of course a different story if I go to the province where the weather would require you to sleep with a fan or aircon on.

We didn't have air conditioning last year, but this year we bought a swamp cooler, and it has been amazing! I can't believe we went without one for so long!

I have no idea what a swamp cooler is! if it gets the humidity out, that would be helpful. thanks!

It's so torturing - when our weather here is hot, even during the rainy season. And the fans are blowing hot air, which makes it worse. Once there was a power cut in the middle of the night, it was simply unbearable. I had to wake up, take a cold shower, only to sweat and get up again in another hour or so. I don't think I can live without it!

The first year we had the house we are in we went without A/C. It was bad but we survived, the biggest problem was that we always felt so drained because of the heat. So preferrably we wouldn't go without again because of how hard it is on the body.
