What have you learned about other cultures at myLot?

I recently posted a discussion about mother-in-laws. I was surprised to learn that so many cultures insist on certain titles for mother-in-laws. It would be disrespectful to go against the culture about this. I've also learned that so many people are very polite and friendly. This includes people from India, the Philippines, China, Italy, and Spain. Something silly I learned is that Bugs Bunny may not be as universally known as I would have thought. How about you? Have you been enlightened about other cultures here at myLot? What have you learned? Has this changed your thinking in any way?

I think that here in mylot people from ALOT of different cultures gather. I am from Panama, a small country in Central America. The Panama Canal? anyone heard of it xD? Well if you have I am glad, since my country is just so unknown to the world =(. Anyways back to the topic, I have found myself with tons of discussions that are specifical activities for certain cultures. That's since most people would post stuff about generic daily activities and other related stuff. But no, I have found quiet a good amount of these other specific cultural posts and they are pretty interesting!

I'm from the US and we all know of beautiful Panama here!:) I have found that there are some discussions that I cannot respond to because they are about something from a different culture that I am not familiar with. I still read them though and try to figure out what they are talking about. Thank you!

Hi rocketj1, I have learned a lot about other cultures here and much of it is very interesting. I admire how many eastern cultures have so much respect for the elderly, and how they think it a privilege to look after them when they cannot manage for themselves. I've learned that arranged marriages often work very well, although I don't think it would be for me. I admire the closeness of families in some cultures and how different religions hold the respect of of those of other faiths. This is just a few examples of the things I've learned here and I hope to continue learning more. Blessings.

Well, personally, my experience with being a member here in myLot has been quite interesting. I have learned a lot about different cultures and religions that I might not have learned about elsewhere. It makes me think even thru our differences in some ways we are the same. In reality, it is how things are percieved mostly out there that count the most as well. It is quite interesting to have people come here from all over the World and be able to talk about and share things to have us realize we are just ordinary people who can relate no matter what is going on around us as well.

Hi rocketj1, There is always a lot to learn about other cultures, and it is something that I enjoy. I've found that most people are polite and friendly when treated with respect. People everywhere love there children and want the best for them. Some cultures treat the elderly with great respect, and care for them in their homes. They consider it a great honor to take care of their parents when they get old, and cannot imagine thinking of them as a burden. It doesn't matter what part of the world one is from, they respond to kindness. I have also learned that there is much good in the religions of all people and it all entwined with their culture. Blessings.
