I am very interested in learning to read tarot cards. I have never been to anyone who read cards, never seen a tarot card in my life, but there is something fasinating about them to me. A couple years ago, I found a deck that i thought was absolutely gorgeous (never bought them, but would like to). I was talking to a friend the other day about tarot cards, and how I would love to have a set. As we talked more and more about it. I began to have questions. Are there differences in the sets? I mean other than that gorgeous art on them? Are certain decks for certain things? Does it really matter which deck I get? Please help, I would really like to learn to read tarot cards, but can't afford to buy a deck if it is the wrong deck, know what I mean? Thanks for reading, Nocturnica

Tarot Cards can be rather expensive. Sometimes you might be able to check on an auction site or something like that for a different design. Altough I do not own any I would recommend going to a local book store, and asking them if they know of anyplace that you might be able to find them. i'm sure that they would know. They also have manuals on how to read tarot cards and what the different cards mean, and how to interpret them to someone else, and for yourself also. It would be pretty interesting to learn how to do that, and when you find out be sure to let me know. Great discussion.

I was always told to go with your gut feelings when you purchase a set of cards. Also the pictures on them will either catch your eye or not...if you don't like to look at them then how much will you want to use them? I am still learning them after a few years and would also find hints or advice in regards to learning them useful. I hate the thoughts of using a book to read for someone.

Well, that makes sense to me. And the images on my Halloween Tarot are very appealing to me. I feel very comfortable with them, and I am enjoying learning about them each and every day.

Well, I know you already made your decision but I figured I would have my say here anyway, hehehe. It doesn't matter what deck you get. The most important thing is that you have a feeling for it. The way you selected your deck is perfect! If you get tired of it for any reason just get another one, to hell with worrying about the cost of them! It is fun to have a bunch of different decks that you can use for whatever mood you're in! Here is a link to a great website (they are using the Rider-Waite deck but that doesn't really matter, as the essence pretty much remains the same). http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/learn/meanings/
