Emergency Room Personnel - Can They Be Trusted?

Quick background story: In Feburary, my wife and I had to make a trip to the emergency room, due to complications related to pregnancy. Now, while she was only about 4 weeks pregnant, they still had ways to check out the fetus entirely. After 2 hours in the ER, the doctor came in, and told us we were going to lose the child. He even went as far as to write 'Threatened Abortion' on the discharge papers. He asked if we wanted to see the Chaplain to help with the sad news. He was convinced we were losing the baby. This was extremely upsetting, as my wife had a previous miscarriage about 7 years earlier. Skip ahead two days. The OB/GYN verified the baby was NOT in danger, and matter of fact, said the doctor could not have been more wrong in his diagnosis. She was right. Baby Aiden was born Sept. 1, 2006. So this begs me to ask all of you: Can ER Personnel be trusted to make final judgement calls such as this? I know in the event of a life hanging in the balance, they have to go on whatever information they have at the time. However, with a pregnancy, they had TIME and RESOURCES to verify if what the doctor was thinking, was in fact, true. They did NOT take the time, or utilize their resources to make sure they gave the CORRECT diagnosis. If this happened to you, or anyone you know of, or care about, what would you say/do? How would you have handled this particular situation? Getloaded (Getloaded, n. - Next Gen Slang for being plugged in and online)

Wow, I'm very sorry you and your wife had to go through that experience. I'm not sure how I would handle it; I would certainly want to make sure the doctor was aware of his misdiagnosis. How horrible.
