Christmas Bliss: A Glimpse of How Christmas Should Be

One lazy September day out of nothing else to do we came up with a plan. I, my four younger siblings(ages 14, 12, 10, 9) and my rowdy cousin (age 9) teamed up to decorate the house for Christmas. Everyone kept themselves busy with cutting, drawing, pasting and hanging. At first, it was a complete chaos. Everyone has their own suggestions. "I want this...It should be...Give me that...Stop that...You're doing it all wrong..." And so it goes.
Luckily, after some pep talk everyone agreed to a truce since we're doing it for Christmas anyway. And that's the moment we all had fun. We had such a wonderful time that we decided to make it a monthly thing until December. We'll be adding more decorations next month. I can't wait..:D
It was a total bliss, towards the end at least. I thought to myself, this is how Christmas should be. A special time to set aside differences and just get along with each other. A time to bond. A time to have fun. A time to enjoy. A time for families.A time to love.
So, what's your Christmas story so far?

So sorry to hear that you cannot celebrate Christmas in Kuwait. At least, you're with your family so all can still be happy. ;D

From forty years the story of chiristmas is one and the same, it is nothing but festival of materialistic aspects(decorations. shining clothes, good food, gifts, perfumes etc....)I am longing to celebrate christmas in spiritualistic way than materialistic.

The materials are there to make the spirit of Christmas more alive. Christmas should always be a celebration of spirituality because after all Christmas is the time when the Saviour was born. ;D

When I was still single, Christmas is a very good day to relax and visit family and friends.l.I love shopping in Christmas season and I usually spent the whole Christmas day with family and friends..giving gifts and eating a lot! :), When I get married, and had children, the happiness is doubled and the spirit of Christmas is so different.. I am more happy now with my christmas day with my husband and kids, of course, both our families are still there to enjoy with us, they are the ones who come over to our humble home mos of the time... :)

that's amazing! I can't wait to have my own family too so I can experience myself the happiness that you have with your family. But I'm still too you so I'll have to enjoy the season with my siblings and mom. I hope you'd have a blissful Christmas with your family this year.

Well you have a big head start on me lol. I have started working on some Christmas gifts, because if I don't start now, they won't be ready for Christmas. Other than that, I have brought out my fall decorations, October 1 I'll add my Halloween decorations. Then come November 1 the Halloween decorations will be put away and my fall decorations will stay out until the day after Thanksgiving. The weekend after Thanksgiving is when I'll be doing my Christmas decorating. It's pretty much tradition in my family to do it that way. That Saturday after Thanksgiving, my sister will call (she's 1600 miles away) and my daughter will call (she's 300 miles away) and we'll check to see how much the others have gotten done lol

As one Christmas song goes: "It's the most wonderful time of the year..." Indeed to me Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year. Decorating the house is a lot of fun. I enjoy it so much too. Yes, I am including my family in doing the decorating because they also enjoy it as much as I do. Like yours, it is a sort of bonding for all of us. But the most enjoyable part for me is the "exchanging of gifts" during the family party. Beforehand, we would pick a name of a family member/relative we would gift but we will keep the name secret first. The revelation time is during the Christmas Eve when a party will be held. There will be lots of food and of course lots of games and fun. During the revelation time, each of us will describe the person we picked and it is the most hilarious part for me. Each will make his own description of the person he picked to be very funny. Like.."oh this person does not clean his room... he eats a lot... but he is so sweet... for he gives me candy everyday". then, of course each of us will shout the name of the person based on the description. It's a lot fun indeed!
The sweet fellowship really makes the family and close relatives even much closer. The giving also encourages genorosity because each one would give the best gift he finds suitable for his pick. And most of all in the midst of all the fun and laughter, we never fail to remember that Christ is the main reason for the season.

That a fantastic way to celebrate Christmas with your family. We also do exchange gifts. In fact, we already posted our what-I-want-for-Christmas list already. Haha. We're too excited. Advance Merry Christmas to you and your family!

At the moment I don't have a Christmas story but as it gets more close no doubt I'll be making tons of those Holiday Christmas cookies that Toll House and Pillsbury make.

Hi divine,
here, people start to decorate after thanksgiving so, we can't see any decorations yet as well as will not hear Christmas Songs yet unlike in our Country, as early as September, we can start to feel it..
Back home, My Family will also start to decorate in the mid week of November but I will always start to hear Christmas Songs during September, I am sure I will miss the " 9 mornings" and the way we celebrate the Christmas in my Family! Anyway, I am still trying to work hard here to save money for presents! LOL!

Wow, your family is quite big ya, with 4 siblings and they are all still so young.. hehe ^_^ I guess it's really very fun to have all of u together decorating the house ^_^ It's such a warm feeling just by listening to it, and i think u should record it with a videocam, record the whole process till the completion..
After which, play the video on the actual christmas, so that the whole family can watch it, and feel the warm and fun together ^_^

yes, we have a big family. They go crazy sometimes and we seldom have a quiet time in the house because of them. ;D That's a great a idea you suggested. I would sure do that in our next Christmas decor project. ;D

Hi Divinegwapa,
Many years ago the whole family used to help make Christamas decorations but as we got older we just buy them and every year my mum used get all of us to put them round the house. Then we all got married and have our own house and Christmas was not the same, now mum has passed for the last six and me and my husband go round to my siste's house and spend Christamas there with her family, I have no children tyo carry on the tradition.

Hi there divinegwapa
Awww that is such a lovely story. My kids are only 3, 5 and 7 and I am busy trying not to say the 'C' word infront of them as they will start to get carried away with what they want. I am busy getting Christmas gifts together at the moment and trying to hide them all from them. I leave decorating the tree and putting decorations up right until 2 weeks before the actual day as I find it more exciting then and the decorations last longer that way too!
