I have been thinking about my childhood a lot lately, and a good childhood it was too,a little poverty stricken, but none the less enjoyable. We had very little in terms of material things,we atre modestly,we drank water or tea,we had homemade toys,I can remember my Mother making us teddy bears from an old blanket for christmas presents (no nintendo`s about in those days)and that is perfectly true, and the bears she made were beautiful too!!There are many treasured memories,I am wondering if you all would casre to share any of your special childhood memories with me??

Hi ruby222 Awww those were the days hey? My mum also used to make our gifts too. I remember waking up in the middle of the night to see my mum and my brothers sanding some wood. I too wanted to join in so I pulled up a chair and my mum gave me some sandpaper and a bit of wood. Within a few minutes I got fed up with it and went back to bed. Two weeks or so later it was Christmas and my mother gave me a gift which was a handmade bed for my dolls out of the wood I had sanded but I didn't have a clue. I don't think I ever believed her when she told me either.

Humbug, one year I was given an His masters voice record player,it was enormous lol with a handle to wind up the player,to me it was the best present known to mankind, and I accquired some 12 inch vinyls and sat in the cellar and spent hours winding that handle!!.I wished I had kept it,there are so many vinyl records in the charity stores that I would love to listen to.

You really are showing your age now ruby222!! The first most impressive thing I got for Christmas that I remember was a portable tv. It was black and white and I had to change the channel by twisting the knob to tune it in. There were only 3 channels then though!!

I have so many good childhood memories! I play with my friends always forgetting to go home. All my worries are about, weather I can get a bike for my birthday present. Now, it is totally overstated

my childhood memories is a very fun and enjoyable one too... even though i didn't have many material things, but i was showered with love from my parents... and to me, it worths more than material things... i didn't have luxury items and i lived in modesty... but my parents were able to send me overseas to further my study and change my future... so that is fantastic... take care and have a nice day...

I know this is going to sound terrible but my best childhood memory was the day I left home and never looked back . I can remember my father always telling me that when I was an adult that I would wish I was a child again and can remember thinking that was not possible and today will still say that I would never ever want to be a child again . All I can remember is constant fighting and yelling , being grounded for things my sister did and never being allowed to leave the house , always be threatened that I was going to be sent away and not being allowed to sleep at night because this is when my mohter would decide she would tell me how everything I did in life was wrong and why could I not be more like my sister or my cousin .

Hi ruby, hmm...we were also that time and not much great toys..LOL! My younger sister and I will try to cut outs baby dolls since we have only 1 doll each so we are trying to make babies so it's fun..and we were using papers or cardboard before and then cut outs dresses out of papers too! hahahha...and then, we will act out like we are an actress and then use anything in the house as our props..LOL! I enjoy those moment, we became more innovative of what is available in the environment since we really can't afford of expensive toys! Anyway, it was fun and nice to recall! We love to play more when it is raining! LOL!

I grew up the youngest of 7. Smile. It was great. All my sisters and brothers would come home at Christmas and it was so special. I remember going to the park with my brother and he would hide a stick every year and the next year we would find it. I remember my next oldest sister giving me tickle tortures. I remember the second sister from the oldest just listening...she is an amazing listener. I remember my oldest sister coming home with all the latest clothes, wow she was cool. I remember my sister who was 3rd from the bottom always having a funny story. And I remember my other brother coming in laughing and saying funny things and showing me cool pop culture. Those were the good times...my family is amazing. To this day, they are good and happy people. Blessings, COnnie

Connie indeed they do sound happy times, and you have many precious memories to hold on to.You seem to have had a pretty magical childhood,my parents had a cash flow problem for the entirety of my childhood,so it was all a little sparse, but on reflection it didnt hurt us one little bit.My sister always had far more clothes than me,and I tried hard to borrow a few things, but seeing as we were sizes apart it just didnt work out as planned!

I have lovely memories of my childhood. My Dad played accordian and was excellent at it. I remember him bringing his accordian along when we went to a picnic and later on in the day he would pull it out and play it. He loved playing it. I have never heard the accordian played as well as Dad played it. We went out to the country on a regular basis and spent weekends out there. I can remember waking up in a cabin but when I went to bed in my own bed at home. Mom and Dad would decide we were going out to the country and get things together and then pick us up and bring us down to the car and lay us in there and drive out to the cabins and take us and put us in the beds in the cabin. My Dad loved to be out in the country. My Dad and his friends would go gigging frogs and when they came back we would have a big cookout of frog legs. And these frog legs were not what you get in restaurants. These frog legs had a lot of meat on them. Christmas time is one of my fondest memories. The Christmas tree was not put up until Christmas Eve. All of us kids had to be in bed and asleep. Then Dad and Mom would get the tree out and it was a real one and decorate it. There was always a platform that the tree sat on. It had mountains on it with tunnels with track going through for a train. Every year Dad added something different to it. He worked on the platform for a long time before Christmas Eve even rolled around. There were a lot of presents under the tree.

I have my fair share of my childhood memories though bitter it might be but I cherish the moment especially games of hide and seek with the neighborhood kids. Life was tough with limited entertainment except for an old radio which gives the latest broadcast of world affairs and music. I used to listen to the popular songs of Skater Davis. I grew up in a big family with 10 siblings and of course food is always scarce and very basic. When I was a six years old I was send to a convent as a boarder and here I learnt to be independent as the nuns were very strict and it was the place where I learnt to say the rosary. The convent was worse than home where our food were rationed and were only allowed to eat at the right time. It was rice and one dish. Eat whatever was being served otherwise we have to wait for the next food and there is no snack to think about. My childhood experiences has taught me to withstand the tough period in my adult life.

I had a great childhood. I am an only child and when I was younger, I was spoiled rotten by both of my parents as well as my grandparents. The best times of my life is when my dad used to take me to various car shows (I am female) and he would let me play with his remote control airplanes and boats that he would build himself. I used to love those times.

I do not have much childhood stories to tell because my Father left us with another woman in his life but I still have my childhood days to remember with my Mother and with my 2 brothers....and even though we tackle all the hardship in life I still enjoy it..

To say about my Childhood, I lost my father at my 1st age. so i never knew about him. My mother cared me. i loved her much in my childhood. but i'll become angry when she goes for work even on my holidays. i would expect my mom to be in home on sundays. but she worked on sundays too.. then, i was joined in hostel for some years, where i was lived in hell, actually.. My best childhood memories are my neighbors, where i miss them much now. i had their contacts when i was 10 of age. they gave me the meaning what happiness is.. next is my some of my school friends. but its too bad i dont have any of my childhood friends at present. whenever i saw those photos in my album, i feel hard. thats what i can do.. but i am still searching my lost friends in orkut, facebook, etc., who knows will i get them or not? my childhood contains only sad stories. so i dont want to share those.. but childhood memories is a very very great, unforgettable moment for anyone.it doesnt matter you were sad or enjoyed that moment. but it will always remain in our mind till our end.

I miss those carefree days... When I was young, I often run around the neighborhood with my brother and friends. We often play hide and seek, badminton and etc. We also play a lot of Sega games (ie.. Street Fighter, Super Mario) Being the eldest kid among my cousins, I was the first one to get whacked when things go wrong. One of my cousins loved to cry. Whenever he cried, I would get whacked.

My childhood wasn't all that happy but it was interesting and very formative. I do, too, have treasured memories but a lot of those are highlighted by some very sad things. I wouldn't exchange my childhood for another's, though, in spite of all this, and do consider myself priveleged in many ways.
