Is this the saddest aspect of Hollywood today?

Look at this list over the most overpaid actors in the business. These people wouldn't know art if it slapped them across the face. I do like Cate Blanchett and Kim Carrey is okay, but look at the rest of the clowns on this list:

All those have starred in at least one movie I enjoyed, frequently several. Rubbish is fine as long as it's enjoyable rubbish. I'd like to see how they've actually done over their entire career, rather than the last few films in dollars generated for each dollar they earned.

See thats the thing about art its all in the eye of the beholder. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean someone else wont.
