Have you ever helped in a political campaign?

I live in London, Ontario, Canada, and have been a supporter of the NDP (New Democrat Party) for over a decade. This year, I have decided to help my local MP (Member of Parliament), Irene Mathyssen ( http://irenemathyssen.ndp.ca/ ), in her campaign. Not only do I have have her sign posted on my front lawn, but I will also be going to her local riding office here in London to do some volunteer work on site this week (likely various monotonous office work duties). I hope to be able to hand deliver some information pamphlets and fliers in my neighbourhood as well. This will be my first time helping out in a Federal campaign, and I am really excited about it. I love to volunteer, and this is a fantastic opportunity to mix and mingle where it matters. Have you helped someone you know (including yourself) or someone you support in your riding, in their political campaigning? What did you do to help out? Do you wish you did more? Do you have any stories to share of your experiences in campaigning?

I've helped in Irene's campaign a number of times, I am not sure I'll get a chance this time around or not, but hopefully. I'll be calling the campaign office for a lawn sign at least. Though I have no doubt Irene will get in again. The first time I hleped otu I helped arrange their call database and helped with her website, the next time my daughter and I canvased with pamphlets.

I'm hoping to deliver some pamphlets in my neighbourhood too. It would be nice to get out for a few hours in the evening with the boys to do just that.

Lately I have been focusing more on helping a campaign for educated and informed voting in general, as well as calling out all ends for rumors, trash, lies and out right garbage being spewed from all ends. See my rant here: http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1701477.aspx I feel this, if nothing else, is somehting I can do to serve my country. I feel an informed and intelligent electorate is a very important first step in reforming poilics and government in my country. Too many people don't take the time to educate themselves and don't take the responsability seriously enough. Instead, they find it easier to read a headline or an email, or just some of the out right filth being spewed in blogs about the candidates and use it as the basis for their vote. So, THIS is the campaign I am trying to help right now.

Good for you! :) It's so true... voting is so important... but should be done ONLY if it's an INFORMED vote! I'm big on that too. I won't vote for someone just because their name sounds familiar, or they were the one with the least smear campaigns against them. It saddens me how many people vote that way, or vote for the candidate in their riding who is part of the party that the surveys and polls claim is going to win. That's just stupidity. I'm going to go check out your discussion now. :)
