Trash or Donate?

What do you do with the stuff you don't need anymore and want to get rid of? First of all, I have a hard time getting rid of anything I think might be useful in the future. But, when I do go on a cleaning stint, I try to donate useful items even though this is more work than just tossing it in the trash. You have to box it or bag it and taking to a donation site. So what about the rest of you? Trash it or donate it?

I never trash anything that seems to be useful. We put it on bags and take it to goodwill. I don;t like to see things in the garbage that are still useful. Some people are just lazy to take it to the donations site. But thinking about it, these things can still be used by people who are in the government shelters. we should give it to them than merely trashing it.

I know what you mean about seeing stuff others are throwing out that is still good. I've been tempted to stop and pick it up, but then I wonder if that would be considered stealing. Oh, and what would the neighbors think?!

hahaha!! I feel the same. But if the owner is my friend I would ask if I could take those things. If I can not use it at home I will take it to goodwill.

I like to donate. I don't see the point in throwing something away that might be useful to someone else.

I agree with you. I must admit that it is sometimes difficult to find the time to gather the donations.

Oh i know. I have gathered stuff up and let it sit in the trunk of my car for a month before it made it to a donation center.

I either try to sell it, or I donate it to charity or give it to someone who wants it/could use it.

I have old stuff that would be ready for donations. The better looking stuff or clothes will be donated to charity, the very old and not in condition clothes will be going to the trash.I started to select which is good and not. I find that it's nice to donate those clothes coz at the same time you help someone in a simple way.

Sorting though all that old stuff can be a big job, but it is a great way to help others.

I love to give I donate most of the stuff to the church and I have a freebie website so me and the postman/lady order a lot of samples and things from t-shirts to hygiene products and we drop them at the womens shelters.

What a great idea, using a freebie site to get things to donate.

I tend to trash everything. I know I shouldn't, but I'm just too lazy to drive to the second hand shop. Horrible person really :)

That doesn't make you a horrible person. We all have to figure how to best use our time. My community has an organization that does pick-ups of donated items which makes donating easier.

I try to donate as much as possible. I keep a couple of Boxes in the garage and as I find something to get rid of it I have time to think about it as I take it to the garage. I have found that may groups are willing to take things that I think are trash. I had a place that used to recycle computer but had to quit because he could not get enough computers to make it profitable. Several years ago a friend of mine show a phone company how they could save money by giving phones to shelter workshops to break them down and resell the parts back to the phone company. Your trash is someones gold mine.

Some of the unwanted things have to be trashed, but that is because they are completely worn out!there are things that can be given to the thrift shops ,the clothing that is still good, and some of the unwanted pictures and bric a brac. There is always Freecycle for the larger unwanted items, the white goods and the furniture,Freecycle is here in the UK but im not sure if there is an american equivalent. But if there are tee shirts that are going to be thrown away I will cut them up and then use them as floorcloths or dusters,it saves buying any for a while

We have Freecycle in the U.S. also. Re-using stuff is a great idea too.
