What Do You Prefer Using: Contact Lens or Eyeglasses?

Philippines

I went to my ophthalmologist yesterday for my eye checkup because I'll be buying new contact lenses. I bought my contact lenses last year and it's already expired after using it for a year. I bought a 3 new pair of contact lenses yesterday. Each pair is good for 2-3 months of use. It's quite expensive. Actually, there are many contact lenses with lower prices but because of my astigmatism, I'm not allowed to use those. It's my first day of using my new contact lenses and I'm really comfortable in it. I also have eyeglasses but I use it when I'm at home. I prefer using contact lenses at the office because it's convenient and hassle-free. I can say that I really look more presentable with contact lenses than eyeglasses. Do you use contact lenses? What do you prefer: contact lenses or eyeglasses? Share what's on your mind.

Contact lenses are really convenient to wear than eyeglasses. I also feel dizzy many times when I'm wearing my eyeglasses.

For a long time, I used contact glasses. Recently, I developed an allergy for it, and decided to switch back to glasses. I now wear glasses, cute designer framed with plastic lenses. They are light weight and look fashionable too. I actually like them. :) Cheers and happy mylotting

I really don't know what suddenly caused the allergy. I wore lenses for several years before developing an allergy to it. All of a sudden, my eyes started itching and burning whenever I put the lenses in, and I decided to switch to glasses. Cheers!!

What causes the allergy? My eyeglasses are made of thin plastic lenses too. It's just a simple eyeglasses with black frame. Thanks for your reply.

I wear both. When home and while working on the computer I wear glasses. They are the progressive bi-focals and keep my eyes from being so strained. My contacts are new, bought them last week, but they bother me when I am doing close up work. I wear them when I am away from home and also while working. My contacts are the gas permeable, hard lenses. I can't wear soft because of the extreme astignatism. One contact is for close up and the other is for distance. Got to the point I couldn't see the spedometer while driving. The last pair lasted 6 years without any complications but eventually were a bit uncomfortable to wear. So my answer is I do wear both.

I also wear both. I wear contact lenses more during weekdays in the office and eyeglasses when I'm at home. I also the hard ones because I also have astigmatism. I haven;t experience any complication with my eyes in using contact lenses.

I would love to try contacts, I have glasses, I want to try contacts because I am SO tired of hitting my glasses on stuff plus they get all scratched up (I have had to wear glasses for about 20 years) I think my face would look better with contacts. Maybe someday I will be able to get them.

If you are really bragging into wearing your eyeglasses, you better try wearing contact lenses. It will be convenient for you to use. I think it will make you look more presentable.

I also love using my eyeglasses if I want to get that intelligent look. =) When I go out with my partner and friends, I usually wear my contacts so that I can move comfortably without thinking of my eyeglasses. It is really presentable to wear contact lenses if you are dealing with clients. My eyes are also sensitive. I get irritated if my eyes get itchy and I'm wearing my contact lenses. It's not tolerable to rub your eyes because your hands maybe dirty that it will irritate your eyes. I use my contact lens for 8 hours every weekdays. I'm not familiar with the daily contact lenses.

Yes, it really depends in the person using it. In my case, I look presentable with my contact lenses. I look nerdy when I wear my eyeglasses. My partner loves my look with my contact lens on with me.

I am wearing eyeglasses now but I used contact lenses before, but the thing is I was so immature then when I used contact lenses so I ended up having an eye infection. But now I don't think I can afford to have one because my kids are very demanding and caring for it is the least thing I want think. And also my astigmatism is very high (it will require hard lenses, no soft lenses can accommodate my astigmatism) even a pair of glasses worth a fortune to me, I was out canvassing the price of a pair of eyeglasses and they say that my lenses alone would cost around 5k or 100 or more dollars, frame not included and it will took them a week before I got it. So no I am thinking and saving up for a lasik treatment.

yes I don't I was too careless that time, my eye grade is more or less 5oo and my astigmatism is 250 plus in both eyes, are you from Philippines? well they say that Fatima Med in Valenzuela has the cheapest lasik treatment.

The best place to look for cheap and stylish frames is in QUiapo, the one that they sell in malls and optical shops came from Quiapo, and you would be amazed on the price difference, a 3500 worth of frame in malls, worth only 1000 in that place.

So you must be not following some guidelines in using your contact lenses, that why your eyes get infected. =) Yes, you're right! The higher the astigmatism you have, the higher the price of your contact lenses. Eyeglasses are expensive too! Grrr! The grade of my eyes are 600+ on both eyes. That means the lenses of the eyeglasses are thick. In my situation, I spent more because I chose ultrathin lenses for my eyeglasses. I'm also interested with the lasik treatment.

We really have different choices. I wear eyeglasses and contact lenses but I spend time wearing contact lenses more than eyeglasses because I'm out most of my time working and being with my friends.

Hmmm well I'd prefer contacts. But, since I suffer from dry eyes and I wear bifocals now it would just cost too darn much to do contacts. Plus, as much as I rub my eyes it just wouldn't work well. I wore them for several years, then went back to glasses. Its much easier to find them when you lose them!

The problem with me is rub my eyes almost all the time but I do it carefully so that I won't be able irritate my eyes. Since I'm using clear contact lenses, I get irritated when I accidentally drop it because it's hard to find.

I'm also not comfortable wearing eyeglasses on my everyday outfit in the office. Try using contact lenses. The cleanliness and safety is not that difficult to maintain after all.

using eyeglasses is very irritating, i hate wearing them but it gives me a nice decent look.. well i am decent by looks anyway with or without glasses. ;) lolz.. But i think using contact lenses is better i have used them for few days, but you have to take care of your eyes a lot. and colored lenses really give a nice look to your eyes.

Ye, it really irritates me sometimes. I look smart when I wear my eyeglasses. Wearing contact lenses requires a lot of safety so that your eyes won't get irritated. I haven't tried the colored contact lenses.

I prefer contacts because I have peripheral vision. I grew up with glasses and my mom had me switch to contacts for looks. It did look nice, I suppose, and it boosted my confidence, but it doesn't have that effect anymore - I'm naturally more confident now, with or without contacts. However I've come to like having peripheral vision and not having the outline of my glasses' frame visible all the time. However I have developed an autoimmune condition - an allergy, basically - with contacts so it is more difficult for me to wear them now. I wear my contacts and glasses about 50% each.

I also grew up wearing eyeglasses and I'm always being teased by my classmates. I started using contact lenses when last 2006 because I want to look good and presentable. Would you mind me asking, how was an allergy appear when you wear your contact lenses? What is its cause?

I prefer glasses. I refuse to put something in my eyes like contacts. I cant even stand eyedrops. i also just generally like the look of glasses. I feel they give a look of sophistication and intelligence. That said my vision isnt that bad so I can see well enough without my glasses and when im feeling vain or self conscious about the glasses when I go out to a club or a party or soemthing like that then I ussually just don't wear them and can see well enough. I totally understand the contacts thing for those of you with really bad vision. My best friend and my ex boyfriend bother wore/wear contacts becasue their vision is so bad that they literally cant see anything in thier field of vision that isn't through the lens of the glasses.

You're right! Many people say that wearing eyeglasses makes a person look intelligent and respected. When I was in high school, my classmates teased me that I look like a bee. I used to wear eyeglasses with big frames before. I prefer to use contact lenses right now because my eyes are really in its worst condition that I wear my eyeglasses all the time. Without my eyeglasses, everything are blurred. I use contact lenses when I'm out for work and gatherings and my eyeglasses I use when I'm at home.

Glasses are very convenient. You can wakeup, shower, grab your glasses and leave. Contacts actually require a little more time, but those extra seconds are worth it, since people generally look better without glasses on.

Yes, eyeglasses is easy to wear. Wearing contact lenses may eat some of my time every morning but I find it more convenient for to do things without hassle.

I'm a contact lenses dependent too. =) I'm planning to go abroad next year and I will also bring my contact lenses with me for convenience. Since I love taking pictures, I'd love my pictures taken out of the country looking good with my contact lenses. There is really difference with my looks when wearing my eyeglasses and contact lenses.

Hi angiemabute, I don't wear contact lens but I only use reading glasses when I reading and when I'm on my computer, I should really go to the options sometimes because I haven't been for years and may need glasses to wear all the time, silly me. Tamara

When I'm not wearing my contact lenses, I wear my eyeglasses all the time. I couldn't manage to do things well without my eyeglasses. My eyes have high grades that I couldn't really see clearly without eyeglasses. I feel like I'm blind.

I gotta say personally I perfer my eye glasses and I think its because I'm pretty squeamish when it comes to putting something that close to my eye it just freaks me out. Foolishly as a child I put something in my eye and it got stuck and I learned my lesson, too well sometimes I think cause now everything that has to come close to my eyes freaks me right out unless its eye drops... so personally I think I will stick with my spectacles.

So your past experience must be stopping you from wearing contact lenses. At first, I'm also afraid to try it but everything changes when I started wearing contact lens. It really depends on the person. Some don't feel comfortable or afraid in wearing it.

I've been wearing contacts for a long time. I do have my glasses for emergencies but now that I've worn contacts for so long, when I do wear my glasses I get headaches from the difference in the proportions of things I can see. I'm really bad, I wear my contacts for weeks on end without even taking them out to clean! I know, very bad for my eyes. But I cannot stand not being able to see. I'm completely blind without them. My husband thinks I look cute in my glasses.

I've been using contact lenses for almost two years. I also bring my eyeglasses with me in times that I couldn't resist the itchiness of my eyes while wearing my contact lenses. I also experience the headaches that you are referring to. I know it's not advisable to wear contact lenses for a long time without cleaning them. Your eyes might get irritated. My contact lenses are those type that I should take off when I'll sleep because if I do wear it until I sleep, I might get blind. A friend of mine is using this type of contact lenses that she can wear even when she sleeps. It's very expensive. So far, are you not feeling anything different in your eyes?

hi there.. i am wearing eyeglasses and i really want to try and use contact lenses but i am so scared to 'stick my hands into my eyes' ;).... i have been using eyeglasses since i was 18 years old ( now i am 33 y.o) and there was always once in a while where i told myself that i would like to try using contact lense but i cant make myself do it... so i ended up using eyeglasses up till now.

Don't be scared. At first, it is not that easy to put it in your eyes but once you get used to it...there'll be no more problem. It's not a scary thing to do. In the first place, your ophthalmologist will teach you the right way of putting your contact lenses in your eyes. Always wash your hands when putting or taking off your contact lenses. It's the safest way. If your hands are clean, you won't be hesitant to touch your eyes. Try using it now, it's not that scary as what you think it is.
