Why are most music discussions here to boring?

I love talking about music. Favorite bands to see in concert, to favorite stage shows, to favorite songs, and those we think just plain suck. I can (and actually have) go all day, especially if it leads me to find a gem song or band that I haven't heard before. But for some reason, here at Mylot, music discussions seem empty and boring. Not all of course, once in awhile I see a fresh topic that piques my interest, but as much as I love music, I only respond here about twice a month. Has anyone else noticed this? Or am I just the one who is boring? ;~D

I like music too and I write music reviews while myLotting I tend to discuss my music interests on the other sites.. I think you're right. There's such an international community here so taste in music would greatly differ and that's probably why the music area would be quiet sometimes unless it is a really general discussion. I have had one of the topics I started in music http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1678642.aspx?p=4 make it to the myLot digest and it was a surprise that it did but I guess with 20 responses at the time that's as good as it gets in 'listening to music' You can also see how general it was, thus the responses. There's a number of good discussions on musicians but few people have those added to their interests too and one has to search per artist.. as few visit the interest or topic unless it comes up in top discussions which is a bit rare

This is a great point, because I will admit that I don't necessarilly go to my interests to look for discussions. Usually, I only have time to respond to discussions in my email's inbox, and rarely do I even get a chance to look at the digests, nor do I even always look at the top discussions of a particular day.

I check the music category a few times a week, but rarely find anything that moves me to respond. It often is because I don't know or have any opinion about the artist or topic itself, but usually because there is nothing new about the thread, so why bother adding to it?

ParaTed2k; Like I said people have different taste in music, so what is boring to you is not boring to someone else... I don't like Rock, Heavy Metal and Electric tracks and you would not find me responding to a discussion on this and not because I'd call them boring they'd be interesting for some people..We all have varying interests which is a good thing If you do not have anything to add to it, ignore it..there's many discussions many of us feel we may not be able to contribute to and it's not because they're boring.

Haha. Only boring people are boring, and well, I don't find you boring at all, so there goes that logic! Lol. I actually haven't gotten into enough musical discussions on myLot to really judge what you're talking about, but I have noticed people posting shallow things like, "Who's your favorite celebrity," etc. So, if this is what you mean, then, no, you are not alone. What types of music do you like, though? I am certainly interested in discussing this with you.

Gangsta's Paradise, hunh? That's funny. Does it make you feel gangsta? I'm only kidding. Well, I like everything from Beethoven to Black Sabbath, as well, including opera (but only sometimes) and hiphop (but not everything. I'm very much into the lyrics of things, but because my mom is a classically trained singer, I do appreciate the music behind the lyrics, as well.

Because we are not arguing about bands and genres that's why. Here I will start: I cannot stand The Jonas Brothers and Miley Ray Cyrus. Who wants to argue this?

Exactly. People need to come up with better discussions about music.

Actually, I think Mylot Music category is bogged down with myopic and shallow questions like, "Do you like The Jonas Brothers and Miley Cyrus". No argument here. Both are prepackaged C&P jobs, except C&P requires more skill, effort and isn't quite as boring.

No my friend you are not the only one. I love music and also do music. Even I am getting boathered by these disgusting, un-interesting, the worstest discussions. Everyone is just to know "WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE MUSIC?" How many times would they ask this question, I just don't know. And to answer your first question, music is not a thing to express. You have to feel it. If you don't like the hard-rock then no one will able to make you to like that unless you feel it. And writing is not the prper way to express the feelings of music. You have to listen to it. May be that's why all of the discussions are boring.
