Religious symbols in the bedroom.

The cross - Do you think that religious symbols are out of place in the bedroom?

A couple, friends of ours were visiting us for the first time and as it is our custom, we took them a “tour”around the house. They liked the way we have decorated our house but when we showed them our bedroom they were astonished to see the cross on top of our bedroom. They said that religious symbols are out of place in the bedroom. They insisted that they would not feel comfortable making love to each other with the sign of the cross in their bedroom. I disagreed because the sign of the cross is a symbol to make you remember of God. After all love making is a god’s gift. Do you think that religious symbols are out of place in the bedroom?

ive known quite a few people who felt the same way yer visitors did.. that having a symbol of god in yer bedroom was sinful. ive also found that those who feel that way, feel guilty for even making love at all, which is why they find the symbol to be sacrelige (sp??) myself.. i agree with you. if yer that religious as to worry over what you are and arent allowed to have in yer bedroom.. then god should be an aspect at all times anyways.. and making love isnt a sin, its (or should be) a religious spiritual joining between people.. so having the cross in yer room is quite appropriate.

In our bedroom, I have the image of St.Anthony of Padua and Crucified Jesus Christ in the bedroom door. I think. it depends on the person'r belief. We are a catholic family, and we have images of Saints at home.. my Sister in-law came all the way from Jerusalem, who give me a rosary adds up my bedroom religious symbol.

Personally, I find the idea of having a figurine of a semi naked man nailed to a wooden cross, dying, is morbid in the extreme.

I say decorate the way you wish. If you want it there then what anyone else thinks is irrelevant. I do find it a bit bizarre though since most christians believe that their God knows all and sees all, what possible difference could a symbolic decoration make? I'm stumped, unless they're doing something in their bedroom that they're feeling guilty about? Hmmmmmm..

LOL @ they're doing something in their bedroom that they're feeling guilty about? Well that may be it:) On a serious note I found their reaction a bit weird.

I think it depends on what is going on in the bedroom lol. If the couple are doing something that they think God is not gonna approve of then that's a buzz kill lol. For me I don't have anything like that in my room.

I have an image of Jesus in our bedroom and also one of the Blessed Mother. They don't distract me or my husband when we are being intimate. We put them in the bedroom because that is also where we do our prayers. Your bedroom after all is your sanctuary and little nook of privacy where you keep your most valuable possessions.

I never thought about the bedroom as a sanctuary...but it is a nice concept to reflect on.

I have had religious pictures and Crosses and stuff in my bedroom before. Shouldn't be nothing to worry about and if they feel guilty about it. Why not have a cross or religious things in your room? I agree making love is a gift. They shouldn't feel any different about one in the bedroom then they would one in the living room. After all god sees and hears all anyhow.

well my mom said too that there shouldnt be any religious items in the room, especially a cross at the headboard or something like that because, well how can you possibly make love with it attached to the wall. i think there is really soemthing to it and there was one person who even told my mom that there would be "marital problems" for those who have a cross in their bedroom

I don't think religious symbols are out of place in the bedroom. It's your beliefs and your house, so you should be able to do as you please!

Hi ronaldinu, I am in agreement with you on this one. Why would anyone feel uncomfortable about making love around religious symbols? Clearly, your friends feel that there is something wrong about lovemaking. This is probable because of some early teachings by someone who felt the same way. Blessings.

Religious symbols are not God. They are just symbols to remind us of God. God is Omnipotent and Omniscience.

Not at all, if the house is your house and you want to put a cross above the bed or anywhere else then that is your entitlement, that is your decision,if you want to show tha you are a relgious person then why on earth should nt you.We have friends who are catholics, and they have a wooden croos on thier sitting room wall, and who are we to question that?I cant see the logic in thnking that making love under a cross would be wrong, the Lord god encourages love and procreation.

I would have told them it's a good thing they don't sleep in your bedroom. It's just a symbol, not God himself. God is watching anyway, weather you have a cross or not.

i have a big old coin served for this purpose. it's hung on the wall facing the chimney outside. people say having a chimney may ruin one's luck and health, so we put an old coin with one side ---inscribed with curses to devils upward. and the back side of it is blessed with peace, fortune and good luck.

i don't want to tell decorating your bedroom with a religious symbol is out of place or not.It depends on who will live in the bedroom. If the owner of the bedroom like the symbol of religion, then it is ok. If the owner think it is not proptate, like your friends, then they can refuse that kind of symbol in their own bedroom. I thought the bedroom is a private place, so how to decorate it also is the business of the owner's. So "out of place " or not? i don't know.

I think it would depend on the person. It wouldn't bother me but at the same time, I don't have any religious symbols in my bedroom. I know of Catholic households that have crosses up in every room but it wouldn't even cross my mind to put one up in the house.
