I heard a lot of people talking about search engine optimization. what exactly does this SEO is for? how does it help one is promoting the website or help bring more traffic into the website? does SEO result in more business or is it used only to drive more traffic into the website? how does one get the SEO right? for a novice like me, its outside my limit to understand how it works. can someone explain it in brief and give some reliable reasoures so that i can refer to that without wasting much time searching the net?

In basic terms, SEO means how to get your site to pop up when someone does a search for what your site is about. You need to have certain keywords appear a number of times on your site so that when someone does a search for those terms, it will show up. There are a number of sites with good information about SEO and keywords. One that I really like allows you to put in the text of your site into their program and it will give you numerical data on how good your keyword density is. http://textalyser.net/index.php?lang=en#analysis (NOTE: This is NOT a referral link, simply sharing a tool I use) There are loads of other sites with great info, so I would suggest doing a search for 'SEO' and/or 'search engine optimization'. You'll be reading for a while. And no, SEO doesn't mean that you'll get more business, just traffic. But without traffic, there is no business, right?
