Does anyone have a favorite tradition in their family that they plan to continue when they have their own family? Or maybe one that started with you? My favorite tradition with my family would have to be our Christmas breakfast. We don't bother trying to eat dinner as a family on Christmas because everyone is full from candy and other junk food so to make sure my family got something nutritious in them my parents would feed us breakfast before we were allowed to eat any candy. We always have the same dish and we only have in on Christmas morning so it is special and we don't complain about eating breakfast before candy. When I got married I brought this to my husband's family to keep the tradition going.

Our family is not very traditional in its ways, but my neice married into a very traditional family, she sometimes finds it all a little hard to cope with,as every occasion has to be celebrated in the correct way. When a family birthday comes along the family member is taken out for a meal, which we often do in our family granted, but lavish cards are bought and the day has to be very special.Christmas has become quite a trial for her,as she is expected to spend both days, christmas day and Boxing day with her in laws, they buy huge cards, and expect all of the family to be together for the whole forty eight hours. She feels smothered by this,as she hasnt been used to it all.So im sure that tradition is a good thing, but it can be carried a little too far.

From what you said it sounds like you are right. My family always had a good balance with our traditions, but I can see how it would be easy to get carried away. I hope your niece adjusts to her husbands family and gets used to it so that she isn't so overwhelmed.

Do you do all these all the time or just on special occasions?
