People not taking the truth

Why do people always/usually believe the opposite of the truth, I mean why do they not want to take the truth? Why do they say the person is lying when they have no proof at all and/or they dont know that person personally? It annoys me that people don't want to take the truth and always force their opinions on others.

The truth often hurts. I say just take it like a man. Accept that you're wrong. Life's easier that way.

Because they are probably still in denial. Sometimes it's easier to stick to one's beliefs and opinions than open themselves up to a different kind of world that they know of.
