Hotel and Ski in New York

I'm going to New York next Christmas so I want a good hotel or hostel, but cheaper because in that season everything is very expensive. Somebody knows where I can find this types of hotels ??? Also, I want to do ski near NY. Someone could advise me about that? Thanks!
