What matters most?

What matter most yo you? Is it career? Or it family life. My girlfriend and I are planning to get married next year. I still want to focus on my career but she insists of having a family now. Don't get me wrong, I agree with her on that but I want to be more prepare financially. Nowadays, most of us just have enough to get by. But when is the right time? When will be stable? Most family survive with what they have? So its more of a question of family versus career. I do want have kids when I am still young so that the age gap won't be that big. What do you think?
