Well I never, I could hear some rustling going on in the garden, I thought what on earth is that? I looked out of the window to see a RAT sitting on my rubbish bag! Now I know others will disagree, but I thought he was quite a cutie and so decided to take a snap of him. When I loaded the image up on the computer and took a look at it, I noticed that it looks like he is smiling and clapping his hands(paws)!! Maybe it is for the camera, or maybe because he thinks he is very clever getting into my rubbish bag for some food! Whats the cheekiest animal you have ever had in your garden looking for food? What would you do if you discovered a rat in your garden?

Hahahaha. Taht's kinda cute. It's usually the stray cats that rummage through our garbage bins. I dont mind, really. They're just trying to survive. I usually just leave some scraps at the backyard so they dont have to make a mess out of teh garbage.

Wow, you have surprised me, but yes he is really cute. Cats are a pest for that, I have magpies and blackbirds that rip my bags up too!

Eek! I have never encountered a rat, but we do have plenty of mice around here. Fortunately, Shirley the cat is a very good mouser, and she even digs in the holes to get moles. We don't have anything getting into our garbage, but they are still a nuisance. The latter part of last winter we had mice get into the house and I won't tolerate that again. I'm hoping to be out of this house and further south before they decide to take residence again.

We never had visits from rats when my cat was here, but since he has been gone we seem to have a family that have moved in somewhere. My hubby sets rat traps up but I am so soft I cannot stand the thought of going outside and seeing one snapped up.

{Gasp} {{shudder}}The same thing I'd do if I saw a mouse in my house. Back away slowly and as soon as it's outta sight put out the poison. Sorry if that's cruel, but I don't share well. The cheekiest "scavengers" I have aren't scavengers at all. They are cotton tail rabbits, and jack rabbits. Fortunately I only grow herbs and they prefer the "weeds" in the yard to the herbs in the beds.

I was expecting this sort of reaction! I would love to have rabbits coming into my garden that would be so cool.

A rat would make me freak out,if there was a rat in my garden then I wouldnt be going anywhere near the garden, they are full of germs and diseases, you need to call the rat man out from the council quick,he will put some poison down,if the missus comes in early enough from work I will get her to give you the telephone number of the council rat man

They have already been out, they have put stuff down now, so I do not expect I will see my little friend for much longer.

If I had seen a rat in my back garden then I would have gone bananas lol a mouse would be a hard enough thing to swallow, not literally, but a rat would be a major ughhhh, maybe you need to contact the local authorities and see if the pest control or the vermin ,rat man will come and pay you a visit,it may well be worth your time Rose,

I would not have took a snapshot of it. Most probably i would take the air rifle and shoot it with it. Or set the cat to fetch it :)

Didn't have a mouse in the garden, but I had a mouse in the house that was cute. We noticed we had mice a couple of winters ago when it got cold. We put poison out, and it worked. But once when my grandma's computer was downstairs a mouse came out and walked right in front of the tv. It was walking slowly because it had gotten into the poison beforehand. It looked like it was saying "I don't feel good" lol. My uncle's girlfriend at the time was scared out of her wits, but this was a little bitty thing, nothing to be afraid of. And he was so cute. It was a shame that I had to hit him over the head with a broom and carry him outside.

I guess I rationalize it by them being in my space. I don't come into their little mouse holes outside and bother them, so why should they be in my house?

I love mice, I just could not kill one, I would rather spend time catching them alive and putting them somewhere else, I just so soft when it comes to killing things. I mean I hate spiders and bugs, but I could not kill one I would have to get someone to put it out for me.

we have a very cheeky old possum, I call Mr. Possum, dont know if hes a he or a she really,he comes out in the middle of the night to rip open my garbage bag and stuff himself on whatever he finds to his taste. we have to store oursack so rubbish out there as our bin in back isually full most of the week. anyway Mr. Possum raids our sack, looks at me with'disdain then waddles off under the fence and goes next door to the condos where he drive the tied up dogs crazy in 'the middle of their yard. then they bark until down and they are so hoarse they have to stop their damned barking.

Chipmunks and rabbits. They are so busy eating acorns they don't notice me staring at me. I don't like when rabbits burrow in the soil. If I ever saw a rat (garbage bag or otherwise) I'd scream!!!

Rats are cunning and a pest, if you keeps them away they keeps coming back. Try to put some sticks pads to trap them and they will get stuck and kill them instanly.
