Why do men try to hide their tears?

I have only seen my husband cry twice in the last 10 years but when I asked if he was ok. He behaved like he didn't know what I was talking about. It embaressed him to cry in front of me. I find crying a natural way to relieve tension on a regular basis and feel that it isn't just made for woman to do. Men should be aloud to show their feelings this way also. After all, we are all human. Unfotunately, others make fun of guys for crying. They think it makes them unmanly and I think this is why men do not do it more. What do you think about men showing their feelings by crying or if you are a guy why do you hesitate to cry infront of others?

Oh my i have asked myself this many times. I have been with my husband for 13 yrs. I ahve seen tears from his eyese only twice. One was when his cousin kim passed away at age 36 of cancer, and the second was right before we got married..(those were happy tears) he said his life was seeming too good to be true, and he had never been happier. I dont know why they think its a weakness, especially now a days women want a guy with a little bit of sensitivity, and being able to cry openly, shows that. MEN! I never will understand them..lol

I guess that is why they do not understand us either! I am with you. I would rather my huband show emotions than act like he lacks them. Sometimes it upsets me that it seems he does not care.

I guess because if someone seen them cry there ego would drop and maybe think they was less of a man if they cry. Some parents do teach you that if your a boy its not okay to cry but i dont see why. But not all guys are like that ive seen a few break down and cry.

I think the ones who can break down and cry are the real men. This of course is my own opinion stated not to start a far with any men who disagree, LOL! I just think that men who can cry when they need to are manlier because they rose to that challenge and weren't fraid of what anyone else thinks. That takes a lot more guts than acting like nothing bothers you.

many factors are put to play here but its mostly society , men are taught to suck it up from since they are small so it enters their psyche and on the other hand girls are told to "let t out" and cry.

I agree with you. It is society that writes out how we all are to act. I even have seen my 8 year old son suck up the tears from pain when other kids are around and I know it is hard because he is realy injured. The only time he rely lets it go is when it is just me and him around.

Man is more bold than woman that is why the men does not care for minor things they are less emotionalthan a woman . but i never hear that i man cry before his wife . this is a execptionat case only . by birth a man is always bold and have big heart .

I had wondered if men were less caring or just do not feel comfortable crying. I guess from your answer I could say that you do not worry so much but I think their are some men out their that choose not to cry because of embaressment versus not caring.

I think men are usually considered to be more of like men being strong and stuff. So when men cry its like a weakness. Yet I think its ok for men to cry as long as the reason is good. Most men though don't really want others to see them cry as it is considered to decrease their manlyness.

My husband would not look any less manly to me if he cried. In fact I think I would like knowing that he cared a little more.
