A Florida judge deems a law banning baggy pants unconstitutional.A 17-year-old spent a night in jail last week after police arrested him for wearing low pants in Riviera Beach, southeast Florida. The "saggy pants" law was approved by city voters in March. The kid had to pay $150 fine. He also spent the night in jail for history of drug use.Dallas, Texas and Atlanta, Georgia are among the larger US cities considering similar laws. The pants are where the underwear is visible to the arresting cop. NO BUTTOCKS shows. The law can include a 6 month jail stay or a $500 fine.
Do you agree with having such a law? Or do you think this is extreme?

It is the right of people to pass laws for the common peace. A lot of people don't like seeing someone's underwear and consider it indecent. Me? I think attractive young girls should be able to wander out in public without being burdened by shirts. I mean, boys can run around shirtless. Where's the equality?
Oh, but if they are old or chubby or otherwise unpleasant to look at, that's offensive and indecent. Just thought I'd clear that up.

Seriously, I don't "get" that idea of style. On the other hand, I don't "get" why anyone would flout the law over such at trivial issue. So, I'm just totally outside this discussion.

I find the fine as excessive and uncalled for. However if the current fashion is offensive to your country, police have the right to ask whoever it is to wear proper clothes. I hate the current trend of low cut jeans where women can show their thongs and men show their underwear. In class I have quite a few students who follow this fashion. I always tell them that in prison this fashion means that you area available to another man. Usually this makes them to wear their trousers properly.

I say it is a fashion statement and is personal choice. Next thing they will ban mini skirts. I don't think they should be able to ban them wearing their clothing as they want as long as they aren't showing their buttocks. When they start controlling how you dress they will start controlling other parts of your life as well that is not really their business. I don't like the baggy or saggy pants look but it isn't for me tell someone that they can't wear it because of my personal preferences. Let them wear what they want..they already are already controlling school clothing. I think what someone wears on their own time is their business..how would this judge like to be told what is or isn't appropriate to wear and just because we don't like it he can't wear it?
He wouldn't like it at all.

I think it is ridiculous. I also believe wearing baggy pants like that is ridiculous but a law? Seriously? This is so unconstitutional it is ridiculous. Why should baggy pants be illegal but spandex is ok? Spandex is much more revealing. What is the difference? Why should the government be able to tell people what to wear? As long as the clothing is not obscene then it should not matter.

I think that is ridiculous. Its a style. They are stereotyping people just on how they wear there jeans. Are jails are over crowded as is. Plus what right does someone else have to tell me how to wear my clothes.
