I am really having trouble with the recent hurricane ike,all these people were warned and asked to evacuate that it could be deadly to stay? What is going through these people's mind to have stayed????45 people were killed that had no reason to die, yes it is sad for the loss but with all the warning they still insist to stay..My question is why would you put yourself in you lives in danger like that?

My understanding is that some people stayed because they didn't have the money to go anywhere or at least that is what it said on one the news channels. They had to have a reason for staying. If i had no money and no place to go, what choice would i have but to stay?? I know there are shelters set up in instances like Ike, but if i had no way of getting there what am i to do??

Yeah, that was the main problem-not having enough money to leave. They jacked up gas prices just in case of a shortage, but they weren't thinking about the fact that maybe some of these people couldn't afford to leave. But I'm pretty sure some just didn't want to leave.

Yes the gas prices went up only after the warnings were sent out many days after wards, I do understand the money but don't these people have family somewhere that could have helped in this dangerous time.Even packed up the home vehicles and stocked it with food and necessities and went to a park away for a couple of days..I am sorry I think everyone has family and those that don't I am sorry..Not trying to sound cold just seems there is a better way than to stay.

Not everyone has family or friends to go to, not everyone has a car to pack up and leave in. And no sometimes there is no better way. And regardless of the gas prices if you don't have any money it doesn't matter what the price of it is. Some people didn't have a choice but to stay.

I can't figure out why anyone would stay either . I don't understand why one would take the risk after being told it was dangerous , with the lives of there families to stay . I realize that this was their home but what is material things when you are talking about ones life .
It is sad for all that has been lost and for those that lost there life but like you said what was going through there minds when they decided to stay in a place they knew was potentially dangerous .

When things like this happens the tendency of the people is not to leave their house, house is a very important part of our lives, it is our sanctuary, we feel safe when we were inside the house so when disaster happens, we hold on to the fact that we can still be safe in our home.
