Which is better?

Is is better to sell things yourself on ebay or to hire someone to do it for you like one of those ebay stores? I have been selling a few things on there but it is such hard work!! Once they sell I always get payment quickly and transfer it to my bank account but then the hard part comes. Finding time to get to the post office, buy boxes for shipping it is just too much for me. I seem to not be making enough money for all the work I am doing. I was thinking of just using an ebay store. Has anyone ever done this? Was it worth it or better to do it on your own?

I think you are making this harder that it is. Next time you are at the post office get a couple of each size of priority boxes and envelopes. They are free. I use the # 4 and the #7 box the most. If you have a paypal acct you can do online postage right from home if you have a scale. The postage comes right out of your paypal acct. No need to run back and forth to the bank and post office. Call the 800 # for a pick up and leave it on you porch if possible and they will pick it up. I sell for myself and for others. It is less hastle to have someone else do it for you, but most ebay sellers will charge you about 25% of the ending price and you pay the fees. Some charge as much as 50%. If you check your local groc store or gift shop you can pick up empty boxes in a variety of sizes for free. I guess if you want to only ship priority, the post office can supply you. You can also order boxes in lots of 25 from the post office for free and they will be delivered to your door. I guess I have just been doing this so long I don't look at it as a hastle but a big hobbie. I dont make loads of money but it keeps me afloat most of the winter when heat and fuel is so high. Good luck.

thanks. Yeah I just signed up at usps.com and I did order the 25 free boxes. I signed up for the Paypal debit card too. I was thinking about getting a 5lb scale from office max and signed up for their Maxperks too.

I bought a Food scale at the hardware store. It weight up to 25 lbs. It is not digital but it was less than $25.00. If I have an item that is just at the # mark I use that weight. If it is over you have to go up to the next #. I can pay the rest at the post office if I am off.( They will take your pay pal card too) If I have too much postage they don't do any kind of refund. I cannot get postal pick up that is convenient for me. (Packages have to sit exposed to the weather all day. They dont pick up till 3:30) but I can sometimes leave the packages in my car and have the postman get them from my car. I live in a small town. They know me and if a package is off( needs more postage) the postmaster just lets me know. You probably can't do that in a big post office.

No the store is an actual store. People have them around Pittsburgh. I know they got big a few years ago but I don't know if they're still around.

People or companies who sell stuff for you on ebay, or other auction sites, are call Trading Assistants. Ebay has a search for people to find reputable ones in their local areas. Laura

Here is the actual ebay training video and it is very good. I'm a tech for a long time and I learned something on it too. I like reviewing training information to get tips on how to train and help people. http://www.ebayuniversity.com/gotraining/selling_basics Have fun and make money :) Laura

I have never used an eBay store before. It is a lot of work. I save all the boxes I get and I'll sometimes go to the local WalMart (at night, around 10pm is the best) and ask them for boxes. You can say you're moving/helping a friend move/helping an elderly relative move, etc and they will likely grab a large handful for you or if you go in the evening, they are most likely stocking their shelves and will have shopping baskets full of empties that are ready to be discarded. Since most stores don't sell boxes this size, they are more than happy to let you take a few/several. It's that many fewer that they have to discard later that evening. If you buy your shipping online from the post office, you can schedule the post office to come to your house to pickup your packages. All you would need to do is buy the shipping labels, have a scale to weigh the packages and you can pay for postage with your Paypal acct (Paypal also will sell you postage paid shipping labels) Of course, you'll also need a printer. I think with all the fees eBay now charges that having someone else do all the legwork will just eat into any of the profits you would make and you will do little more than break even.

yeah having a scale would be nice. I have to guesstimate the weight I am always wrong. I just took a clock that I sold. I posted Priority Mail but when I got to Post office it wouldn't fit in their biggest box. It was too wide. So I have to send Parcel Post and it's gonna cost me money! WTF! After I finish with these items I am done with ebay. Maybe I'll just have a yard sale. lol
