What do you think of "Glitter Graphics"

I was thinking to put this in "Graphics", but I decided in "Internet" because I know just about all Internet users have bumped into these flashy forms of art. So what do you think of them? You can mostly see them on MySpace, Yuwie, Friendster, some forums here and there and in places very unexpected. Why did they become so popular, why do people continue to use them as their primary element in profile decoration, why do people still persist in using them on clean profiles. I'd like to know and I don't wish to offend people that love them dearly. I am just curious and I thought this would be the perfect place to ask. Personally, I find them to be a huge eye sore. I usually don't approve any comments in my clean profiles unless I use the profiles for advertising.
