There a lot of famous cities in the word like NYC. I couldn't remember why and when I knew this city! Maybe, it would be mentioned all the time both in movies and daily life. Thus it is in my mind.
Lots of people told me that they knew Shanghai from Shanghai knight! Once I asked an American that weather he knew China. In fact, I just had nothing else to ask. It was a ridiculous question though.
" No, I don't know, secriously" he answered,
"Oh really?" I asked,
He told me "absolutely"
I was so confused. Later, I realized that he might be kidding me!
I just wonder...
Have u ever heard Shanghai? How did u know it? If there was no Shanghai Knight...

In the US, the name Shanghai does not bring pleasant thoughts. It is most often used in the term to Shanghai someone, meaning to take them against their will and force them into involuntary servitude, or just to take unfair advantage of someone. My family and I used to play a game called Shanghai Rummy. It was fun and very involved, but it would be easy to take advantage of an unskilled player.
As to the actual city, I know nothing except what I've learned from books, mainly fiction. Thus, I should say that I know nothing.

Oh really? I know nothing about that. Thanks for telling me! Believe it or not, shanghai city is kind of developped. Hmmm, also, you will meet American people everywhere in the city!
A coin has two sides. Some Shanghainese are very proud though they don't ought to do that.

If it makes you feel better, the idea that to Shanghai someone was to press them into involuntary servitude originated long ago in the time of sailing ships, The story goes that when sailing ships from the orient arrived in the western US many of the sailors would jump ship, probably to join the gold rush which was in full swing at that time. This left the ships short handed. Since it was difficult to hire replacement sailors, the ship's masters would have unsuspecting men kidnapped to replace the missing sailors. Since many of those ships came from Shanghai, the term stuck.

I haven't heard of Shanghai Knight, but I sure know about Shanghai!!!
I was always paying attention at the geography lessons, it was my favorite subject in school.
From what I remember Shanghai was the city with the largest number of inhabitants in the World, around 20 million people.

LOL.. that was a funny story. I know Shanghai, I went there once when I was a kid. I went there when my family was having a tour in China and having some fun in there. Shanghai is a metropolitan city with many skyscrapers here and there. It is crowded and had a very beautiful night view. My father told me when back then in 60's there were many gangster there in Shanghai, I didn't know if it was true, but I think it was a nice city (and many pretty ladies there too)
