It's not better. Hands down a DSLR is a better camera than a point and shoot. DSLRs have a higher quality image sensor, changeable lenses, more depth of field, more dynamic range, full manual controls, no shutter lag, can shoot more frames per second, and are more durable. Point and shoots are more affordable and more portable. That would be the advantages of owning a point and shoot over a DSLR, but it still doesn't mean it's a better camera. Better means quality, and the quality of a DSLR is significantly better than the quality of a point and shoot.

in what category are you saying that PnS is better than dSLR? of it is just because the former is less expensive and agile in terms of mobility. but if that's the only factor we gonna use in comparison then you are right but that doesn't end right there. the are a lot of features that needs comparison as well and overall i would say that dSLR is far better than point and shoot cams. i'm not a professional, in fact i still have to own a dSLR (i am now saving for it) and i am already do my assignments on this.

haha! goid point! 1. it's CHEAPER 2. it's smaller 3. more AUTO functions. that's it...on the other hand, there are dozen of reason why DSLR are better (WAY better) than pns. :)

I wouldn't really say that a point and shoot is better than an SLR but I guess there are some points of comparison where the point and shoot does do better than a D-SLR. One would be the price. Most point and shoot cameras are cheaper than D-SLR's, even the higher end ones. Another would be mobility. Most point and shoot cameras are really compact and lighter which make them easier to carry around. I don't agree though that Point and Shoots are better than D-SLR's.
