Have you ever done anything...(unintentionally, may i add!!!) with regards your children that have made you feel guilty!!!??? I was responding to a post earlier that made me think of some of the experiences iv had with my boys, the one that made me and still does make me feel guilty was last year I was at work and my husband took the lads to football, they were playing and at some point fell and my middle son ended up under the eldest and hurt his arm, he was checked out by the first aider who said it was just bruised and would be sore for a couple of days...I only saw him the following morning, had a quick look over it and sent him to school rang school told his teachers what had happened asked them to keep an eye on him and if any probs then ring me....they didnt ring so when i picked him up checked him out again and as he was saying it was still sore and he was holding it close all the time, i took him to the hospital to get it checked out...even the doctors didnt think it was broken but decided to x ray it anyway just to be on the safe side....how guilty did i feel when the x ray came back.,....IT WAS BROKEN!!!!! The poor thing had been suffering with a broken arm for nearly 24 hrs!!!!! hugs, Jessica

Hi jessicaboardman, Oh! he was a brave little boy, but don't feel so guilty you didn't know, they shloud have took him straight to the hospital in the first place. I broke my wrist a fw years ago when I sliped on the ice, I went home and I was crying, but I just thought it was a sprain, a week later I was still in pain and my husband decided to take me to the hosptial, I got it x-ray and the doctor said it was broken and I have been walking about for a week with the broken wrist and even the doctor couln't believe it. Hi Jessica, I know how you were feeling at the moment as I had a similar situation with my eldest daughter when she was younger. She always whinged about this hurting and that hurting so I didn't take much notice when she said her legs hurt and I went into the garden to mow the lawn and when I got back in she was still sat in the same spot which was unusual, well I took one look at her legs and said how on earth did you do that she was covered in massive bruises which hadn't been there before, I phoned my husband and said I was taking up to the hospital and to meet me there well by the time he got there I was being questioned and they had called social services as I could only tell them she had been sat down doing nothing and it looked horrendous and broken x rayed nothing and then the other leg started going the same in front of their eyes so they called someone else and it turned out that she had Henoch Schlein Purpura which can lead to renal failure too, my nan was in tears cos she had also told herto shut up moaning earlier too, bless her. I can quite understand why social services were called as it really did look like she had been beaten and legs broken but they left once every one realised. She is fine now but I cried and cried through not having taken her pain seriously before the bruising started especially as it also turned out that the hurtingwhingeing was the lead up to it all. All we can do as parents is our best eh and I am sure many parents have experienced moments where their child is more ill than they think. I hope your sons arm mended okay once the break was iscovered. Huggles. Ellie :D

He is fine now back to running around like a madman getting up to all kinds of mischief! hope your daughter is well and you have recovered from the ordeal!!!!! hugs Jessica xxx

Oh my daugher is fine now, this happened years ago and is rare but the body attacks itself rather than any infection so it was a simple cold that caused it and we had to do urine tests daily for about two years to make sure there was no blood. From then on though I always listen and check arms and legs for unusal marks and bruising. Glad to hear your sons arm healed well. Huggles. Ellie :D

I have often felt guilty. I have four children - all grown up now - but I remember my little son coming into our room after midnight and trying to climb into our bed. He pulled over the lamp which was on my bedside table, and ended up on the floor with glass broken and cuts on his face! It was terrible, and I had to rush him to casualty and have some stitches put in near his eye. On another occasion, one of my daughters took her little ride-on bike to the top of our steep driveway and rode it down straight into the garage door. I was in the back yard and heard the bike wheels trundling down, getting faster and faster - then a horrible thump as she hit the door. By the time I'd run up there, she had caught her breath and was screaming - but it could have been a lot worse. I guess there is plenty of opportunity for accidents with little kids. We have to be extra vigilant.

Hi Gutybrush, Oh you poor son bless, I would have been frantic, I hope it actually looked worse than it was which is often the cuts with cuts, so glad it didn't get his eye though, my brother done similar to your daughter when he was little on his bike, mind you I don't think a week went by without my mum being at casualty with my brother he was just that type of child bless. Huggles. Ellie :D

It was horrible, Ellie! It happened in the pitch dark when I was groggy and half asleep, so I had to shuffle over the broken glass to find the light switch. The poor little lad was sitting in a pile of glass with blood all over his face and shards of glass sticking in it still. I was petrified - and so lucky, as it was about quarter of an inch from the corner of his eye. He has a little scar there now - and won't be jumping into any woman's bed in the dark again (hopefully!) My poor daughter had a huge egg right in the middle of her forehead from the trike accident, and these days there's a pale, circular dappled patch there if you look carefully. Childhood is fraught with danger, that's for sure! No wonder I was grey by 30-ish ...
