This was a horrible thing to have happen and goes to show the importance to have the gas shut off abandoned houses. That's sure too bad.

Well the really odd things are: The house was abandoned, and the gas company had been called out before hand because one of the neighbors said that they smelled gas. It is all under investigation.

Well the house that exploded is completely gone. The house that was next door and a wall was blown into inside of the house. A lady that was sitting on her porch. Had to go to the hospital. they are saying that there could have been many more injuries then there was.

This is the VERY reason why I got rid of the gas that was connected to my house!! We had gas heat and I hated it the whole time because we never know when something could go wrong!! We just had a new unit put in a few days ago, actually hubby and a friend did it and it's electric/heat pump and NOT gas. Our gas company is coming out to pump out the remaining gas in the tank sometime next week but it couldn't be soon enough!! I've been through 5 fires in my lifetime, I sure as hell don't want any more!!

Natural gas leaks don't work this way unless they are a high pressure high volume line where the gas is coming up out of the ground over a larger area. They are tryin g to say gas from the leak got into other houses from the one that had the leak. This won't happen for the simple reason the first place Natural Gas finds a place it can it goes straight up. Propane is right opposite. It will go down to the ground and pool up in low places. Concussion from the blast of the house that exploded is no dought the cause to the other houses being damaged.

The house that exploded was vacant. The gas company had been out before when someone stated that they smelled gas. I am not sure why the gas was not shut off at this vacant house. Someone has some explaining to do. They did call out the bomb squad to check for foul play. It is under investigation for sure!
