Has anyone used the services of a birth or postpartum Doula?

I have been a doula for many years. I have taken time off from working with clients and focused more on mentoring new doulas the past few years. I am curious to hear if anyone here has used the service of a doula or maybe wants to know more. I find that many people, even in the birthing community, are confused about the role of a doula and the benefits to all that they can provide, before during and after the pregnancy and birthing process. I would love to hear what others have to say that have had the benefit of using a doula for birth and or postpartum. Questions are also welcome.

I am thinking of using a doula my next time around. Mainly because my first time went ways i didn't ittend. I want to do things as natural as possible. I think a doula would be the answer. If my insurance covers it next time then i might get a doula.

good fo you, also, you can look fo doulas who will barter, or one in training, or lookinf for certifying births (the often work for free for thier child care expenses) there are things to look up about getting insurance coverage too. make sure you look up DONA and they can help your with a list of how to go about insurance claims. (most all will say no ahead of time) Best wishes. are you planminga baby anytime soon?

I want to wait at leat a couple more years for a baby because of my sons allergies. My fiance and i at least want to be better on our feet first. It may be sooner than we think but right now i have set at least two years on it.

I think that having a doula sounds an excellent idea. For my last pregnancy I got some support from the leader of my National Childbirth Trust pregnancy class. I had very upsetting news at 36 weeks pregnancy when I was told that my baby would have spina bifida. I felt like everyone was trying to push me into having a hospital birth. I said no and went ahead with the home birth I had planned. I had two midwifes at the birth that lasted only 2 and a half hours. My son was taken to a special care baby unit for the first three weeks of his life. Would a doula have been helpful to me when I had such a difficult and worrying time?

sorry for the delay in my response, yes a doula would help in these situations, with emotional support and to help find resources. Best wishes!
