In China,i have few chance to practice English, but now i'm in bangalore,India. Most of people here can speak English fluently, many opportunities appear. Sometimes,i consider that it is impolite to say hello to people everywhere. However, that's necessary.Should i learn by myself, just like close the door to speak loudly? I think if so i will mad one day. How about you to learn a foreign language? I'll appreciate if you can share me your experience.

Well.. in Indonesia, we have many English courses since it is very popular here. I believe in learning by practicing things, because I think without practicing we won't be able to improve our language, especially the foreign language very well. I am glad that you have gone to a place that many people are talking in a good English, try to talk with people would improve your English. And try to develop your vocabulary because it would be necessary for your conversation. If you only want to make a good conversation, the best thing you do is by talking with people, there is no use of talking alone. You don't have to care much about grammar if you just want to talk, but I believe for a more formal use, you have to be able to use the tenses too. That's what the forums like this use. Try to post with good grammar ( I am trying here but I think I messed up sometimes LOL) and don't be afraid of making mistakes. Mistakes is a tool of learning too LOL.

All good advise! I imagine you are quite advanced in your English learning. It's interesting that so many of you soon learn the abbreviation for Laugh or Laughing out loud!!!

Hi Flouya! For me the best way to learn a language is to to be in constant communication using that language. In the Philippines, most house hold start speaking to their babies as early as possible. It is actually because most parents want their kids to be ready for school. Kids usually start schooling at the age of 3. The medium of instructions in our schools is English. We are taught how to read in the American English Language. Our books are all in english except for one-our own national language book=Filipino. Our civics book which is used for studying our country is now in english again. But not for all schools yet. When I was younger, our civics was in english. Then, during my kids time,it was in Filipino. Now it's in english again. It is very funny that my kids excelled in english but usually fail in Filipino and civics when they totally speak Filipino very well. It is because spoken Filipino has very different words used in the books. We dont encounter these official words during our day to day activities so we dont get familiar. It is important that a foreign language shoul be spoken regulary or else, you will forget it. My mom spoke mandarin really well. She used to teach us. but was not practiced so I could not remember anymore. My dad comes from a family whose domestic language is spanish. His dad,my grandfather is a son of a true blodded spaniard from Spain. When were little, only spanish and english was spoken. Now, the spanish that I can remember are maybe around 3 to 4 sentences only. In the Philippines, we have more than a hundred languages and much more dialects as variation of our indigenous languages. I can only speak 3. So, if we meet fellow countrymen with different languages, we speak english of Filipino. Funny.

There are different ways to learn languages. You can also find some very good online learning, free of charge. One suggestion - join "italki", people helping each other learning foreign languages. Have a nice day !

english has been a second language in our country, it is incorporated in our curriculum aside from having an english subject. since first grade we already have an english subject and molded to read and speak english in the class room. on the other hand most of our text book are all in english except those one subject that pertains to our history but the rest are all in english. it is more intensive when you reach college and every report were done and written in english but by this time we already have enough background about english. it it better for you to at least enroll in an english class in a reputable institution so you would learn the correct grammar and sentence construction. you should have a foundation before venturing in self review or study.

Hi!Fouya... How is everything going there in banglore? When talking about English, we both are chinese, there must be many topic between us... I have been very glad to know you who is also inteseted in English, and it is quite difficult to hunt.. When I am speaking English in my daily life, since I just want to speak as mush as possibly,I would be regarded as a nut and somewhat being crazy..But I'm fond of it. I could find some guys in my school to chat using English when come across,it is fun! And I don't consider closing the door to speak loudly a bad idea. It's a way to release ..haha..Believe it or not ,when I enjoy my own company.I just keep takling to myself..whatever..stupid..hehe I have always been treating speaking English as and enjoyment, and I would like to enjoy it with my friends, and of course,You!

learning english is not that hard just like how you think it is. All languages are the same in terms of learning, if you're really serious in learning it you can learn it easily. I learned english since i went to school in the Philippines. And when i got here in Belgium i needed to learn the language Dutch also in order for me to stay. And now im attending the school and we also need to learn how to speak French. learning languages isn't really that hard if you do your best.

A good way of learning any language is to Read, Write and Speak that language as often as possible. Reading what others write would help you in the correct construction of the written English Word. Writing also helps in forming the words and phrases that correspond to the thought in your mind. Speaking of course, gets you immediate results and sometime others will correct you, which is good. Cheers!!

Hello Flouya! Yes, you have been given some good suggestions here. When learning a new language, there are four skills involved; graded from easy to hard, they are: reading, writing, listening and finally speaking. It is good to practice all of these skills to increase your proficiency. I am quite a shy person myself, so can understand your reluctance "...to say hello to people everywhere...". It is not necessarily impolite to do this, but you may want to pick and choose your times and places to get the best responses! When I travelled to Latin America some years ago, I did quite a bit of Spanish learning beforehand, so can appreciate your difficulties! All the best!!!

I suggest you watch some english movies and try saying some of their lines that way you can improve your english communication skills and also learn several types of diction. Try reading english books dont just read also understand what it says. The best way and also the hardest is go and find foreign people who only speak english befriend him and always do conversation with him. In this manner you will apply what you learn and it will definitely enhance your communication skills. Cheers and Goodluck!!!

The best way to learn English is to talk it.. Or to write it.. For example if you do a lot of reading and writing on mylot you will notice that you will get better in English.. I couldn't speak or read one word english 5 years ago.. But now I think I am pretty good in english.. Have a nice day :)

English Language is the universal language and I think anyone who wants to speak in English can learn and can speak fluently. Speaking in English really needs a lot of practice. There are a lot of ways to learn how to speak in English, the Filipinos prefer to use media such as television, newspaper and radio to learn to speak for some did not afford to continue their studies. Second are reading books and third is a crash course in English. I don't speak fluent English and sometimes my grammars are wrong too because I didn't practiced what I learned in school. So the key to that success is practice. Because practice makes perfect, but nobody's perfect so why practice. LOL.

Flouya, english can be learnt in many ways.but the only problem is that u need to identify one method which suits u well.in my view english can be learnt by watching english movies, reading news papers and magazines.but the only thing is that u need to implement what u have learnt, somewhere like usage of certain sentences which u have come across in books or movies while speaking with others.but it is better u develop acquaintance with someone who knows english better and speak with them in english,so that they will be able to sort out your troubles and help u to improve your fluency............

I think it is great when one has the opportunity to learn another language . I can only speak one myself and that is English but would have liked to have learned another language . I have always been interested in the Spanish language but only know a couple of words . I think it would be a nice polite gesture to say hello to those on the street , it will help you in practising the language and also , it is always nice when someone says hello when they walk by . If they don't like it they will just walk on by so I wouldn't worry much about that and if you run into someone who is nice they may even take the time to talk to you and you can let them know you are just learning the language and that it was nice of them to take the time to stop and talk to you . Mylot will also help you learn some more of the language when trying to read what others have said :)

hi! well for me, I've already graduated college and had a job too. here in the Philippines, it's best when someone speaks in English fluently. One important thing to improve your English skills is that you have to read English books, newspapers, magazines; watch English news as often as possible. one more tip, read in front of a mirror loudly, or speak to yourself in English. By this way, you'll eventually practice not just your fluency but your English diction as well. Try it, it's effective.. ^___^
