Congratulations on your first published article, Louise. I read and left a comment on the article, and also subscribed to your content page so that I'll get an email any time you publish an article. Would you consider doing the same for me?

Good job. I did read your article. Congrats on getting your article published with Associated Content. I did almost die shortly after being born. I developed pneumonia and was so sick throughout my first few weeks. Eventually I became well enough to go home with my adopted parents. I was sick off and on for the first year.

Wow! Lead poisoning. Well I can't say that my experience was as severe, but according to my parents...when I was about 4 1/2 years old, I wandered away from my folks and out onto my grandparent's cottage dock. I ultimately slipped on the wet surface and fell into the lake...a depth of about 5ft. My great granfather was there visiting at the time, and noticed I was missing. He apparantly saw my lifeless little body slowly starting to sink. Within moments he rushed over and fished me out, even though my great grandfather couldn't swim to save his own life! I've been told that he applied mouth to mouth resusitation, and eventually brought me round, coughing and spitting up water. I of course, don't remember this incident, and perhaps that's a good thing? However, it never kept me away from learning how to swim or enjoy the lake. But for some strange reason, I prefer showers over baths. Hmmm? I wonder why? cdrxo P.S. (My middle name is Lawrence, and I had always been called Larry until I turned 21.)

How exciting to have something published , I can see why you are excited :: My son had problems when he was really little and they were scaring me one day when I took him in beacuse they started screaming code whatever , can't remember the color . There were nurses running around and a couple of them had come up and told me that I was going to lose my son and why had I not taken him in sooner . I was crying and freaking out because I had been at the hospital everyday that week and they kept telling me he was fine and then I take him in and they are yelling at me that he is going to die and what was wrong with me for waiting . I was so upset and they wouldn't tell me what was wrong . We knew it had to do with his bowels as he was unable to go to the bathroom and had not went in a long period of time . If it had not been for a friend there with me I don't know what I would have did as she took care of all the paperwork and was quick to tell the nurses off when they started yelling at me for not taking proper care of my child and for waiting to long to take him in because she had been with me every day that week trying to get someone to do something about this problem and how I kept being sent home . I am still not really sure how close he came to dying but it was a big enough commotion that I was terrified of losing him . They had put hot wax up inside of him to try and soften his bowels and when they did he started to bleed really bad because he was blocked up so bad . We ended up getting to see a specialist after this and found out he had a rare bowel disease and they said it was so rare that they didn't actually have a name for it as it was just called rare bowel disease . He had to be put on a special diet and was allowed no milk of any kind for years . He was not even allowed to take viatmains as there was too much of something in it that would bind him up . Because he was so young and his bones were still growing he had to take eigth rolaids a day to get his calcium intake . He is fine now and he is 13 now and does not remember what it was like for him to not be able to drink milk or anything with milk in it until about five years ago . He goes a little over board on the milk now because he loves it and I think he likes it so much because even though he doesn't remember , he was never allowed to have this when he was younger and has only been drinking it really for a short time compared to other children . He was very excited the firt time he ever got to try ice cream because at birthday parties he was never allowed to have this and to have pizza with cheese on it . I have not read your story yet but I am sure it is interesting and will go in and read about it in a little bit :) Congratualations on getting it published :)

Wow that is a story! I am so sorry that you had to go through all this. I think that it is called *code Blue* That is very scary. I am so glad that you friend was with you that day. As if it was not upsetting enough, to be yelled at would have been so much worse. I am so happy that you son is doing well now!

Congratulations on your published story! I love the way you told the story. I have written 2 articles at AC, my third was rejected. I must try to write more there. I wrote mostly for Triond at the moment. When I was a little kid, I almost choked on a plastic bag. I was playing with a plastic bag, pretending it to be a hat. The next moment, my mum saw that the plastic bag has completely covered my face. I tried to breathe and that resulted in the bag cling tightly around my face. I couldn't breathe. My mum tried to pull it up from the top but she can't; it stuck to my face. Then my dad came over and tore the plastic bag right at my nose. I was able to breathe again. Of course I wailed. Thank God my dad was around. My mum panicked. Well that was my story. There were other such stories though. I wonder how I have survived all these years.

i just voted on you my friend. i had no idea you were in the next state over. i am in PA. it is a great story. i am familiar with pica. and, yes, things were very different then with lead paint. medicine has grown and changed every year. i have had one incident. 50 some years ago, too. my grandmother had a cabin in the mountains. the water was nasty. so, a friend of hers owned a bar and gave her big glass jugs to fill. it was always my job to fill the 10 heavy jugs with water before we could leave. i was trying to hurry. i stuffed the water hose into the jug. of course it exploded and a huge shard of glass rocketed into the ceiling and embedded itself. that could have been my skull ! 50 years later it's still there. it is so deeply locked in the ceiling, no one could remove it. i'm glad you are around to write your story !

Hey louise! That was an unbelieveable story! It was really well written! You were a very lucky little girl that you lived to tell that story. I am so sorry that you had to go through all that at such a very young age. Your story was well written and hopefully it will help someone else who sees it and may identify with it and maybe be able to help someone else. It really was quite impressive and I found myself routing you on! I am proud to know such a strong willed person who was able to have such a fighting spirit even at such a very young age. I wish you all the luck with your story. I think you will be able to gain alot of fans from the people who read it.
