What is your favorite side dish at Thanksgiving?

I absolutely love Thanksgiving and I have to say my favorite side dish that I look forward to all year has to be sweet potatoes and marshmallows. The combination of sweet potatoes and maple syrup topped with mini marshmallows and baked in the oven is the best.

The sweet potatoes with marshmallows is my favorite too! Only we don't use maple syrup in my family. We melt margarine and add brown sugar to it to make the syrup and pour that all over the top of the sweet potatoes, then bake them. Yum! It is my husband's favorite too. I make them for him every once in awhile as a treat. He had never had them that way before meeting me and he loves them!

Oh that is a good tip with the margarine and brown sugar may have to try that. My husband has never tried sweet potatoes with marshmallows either, I am going to get him to try it this year since we are going back to visit my parents and it will be his first Thanksgiving.

My favorite side dish is definitely mashed potatoes. My mom's are the best. Mine never seem to be quite as fluffy or flavorful.

Well, after reading this discussion, I see that I am not the only one who would make a beeline to the sweet potatoes for Thanksgiving. I absolutely love them! I really like green beans and stuffing too but the sweet potatoes take the number one food on my list.

I love the sweet potatoes too but really love the stuffing! With lots and lots of gravy......and then there is the pumpkin pie. I really like that but I think the stuffing would win as my favorite side dish.

My favorite side dish would have to be the stuffing, I don't make too much because my daughter and I are the only ones that eat it around here. the only time I do make alot is when my mom, dad, and my two brothers and their families come to feast at my house. Sometimes we all get together but, then there are times when they have other plans. my favorite desserts are pumpkin pie and apple pie which I make from scratch. I have people coming over just for my desserts, sometimes they even come a day after just to see if i have any leftover pie. lol

I love apple pie! I also like the mix it up with apple crumble and sweet potato pie. That must be some good pie you make if people are still showing up the next day.

My mouth is watering just thinking about Thanksgiving! I do love the stuffing/dressing, but also, the sweet potatoes and marshmallows. I ask for that every year, and I am the main one that eats it at our house.

That's funny in my house I'm the person that eat most of the sweet potatoes with marshmallows too, do you think it's because we hog it all for ourselves?

Not being "southern" the sweet potatos were never on our menu. And even if they had been, I couldn't eat them now because the marshmellows are not on my list of safe foods because of the corn starch on them. However, its the bread stuffing (using Elic safe bread) that is my favorite - even more than the turkey! Obviously, we aren't making corn bread stuffing/dressing here either.

I love those little candied yams you are talking about. I would eat them more often throughout the year if my wife would cook them. This is the only way I care to eat sweet potatoes. However, I have to say that my favorite side dish has to be the dressing. There aren't too many things in this world that are as good as dressing as long as it is made correctly. I like mine with some cranberry sauce.

Homemade cranberry sauce is a great Thanksgiving food as well.

That's easy. It's stuffing. All kinds of stuffing. Bread, cornbread, rice, anything that's mainly carbs.
