Were you ever a paperboy or girl? What did you like about the job?

I remember getting my first job as a paperboy and I absolutely loved it! I was lucky to have been given the biggest round and so the pay wasn't all that bad. No matter what the weather, snow, rain, wind, I was up very early every morning, and I made some good friends too! The thing that I absolutely loved about this particular job though was the fact that I had this strange dog following me on my round! It was a black German Shepard and it was absolutely adorable!! I would pack my papers, ready for distribution and then, five minutes into my round this dog would spot me and come running to me! It would then follow me until I had completed the round and then it went back home! Now, is this strange behaviour or what? It was almost like he was acting as my angel or protector! There were times that I really wished that he would go back home, like when he chased different cats! The owners of the cats would become irate and I would say to them "but he's not mine!" Anyway, I loved my job as a paperboy, I had good exercise and enjoyed the fresh air! Have you had any wacky experiences as a paperboy or girl? A penny for your thoughts! Andrew

Hi Andrew It's a strange coincidence that only recently I posted one discussion regarding this! The paperboys are one of those people who help starting our day and my father is most inseperably attached to them. Even I am bit old school and would not give up on newspapers. Its indeed good to know about your sweet experience. Thanks for sharing. http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1705865.aspx?p=1

Yes, I used to really love that job and I was always hoping that the dog would show up and it did, all the time! I'm sure that some of the customers were very grateful for having received their morning paper. I guess it's nice to relax, read the news and enjoy a hot brew!! Many thanks. Andrew

No, sorry i did not get to be one. But it sure sounds great to be one. You are lucky too to have a companion during your rounds, maybe the dog really is your guardian, making sure that nothing bad happens to you while you are on your rounds.Nice to see you again, friend.

My first ever job as a child was delivering a local newspaper actually. I used to have to go and pick up all the papers, fold them and then deliver them according to an area I was given. At first I enjoyed it a lot but the excitement wore off pretty quickly. It was a free paper delivered every Tuesday and I ended up getting busted in the end for dumping the papers rather than delivering them every week! lol. I can't remember exactly what I was paid but it was a couple of cents a paper or something. This job lasted all of a month or two.

That sounds like you had quite an experience all the same. I must admit, I never dumped any papers but there were parts of the job that I did not like such as Sunday mornings! We would have to pack the Sunday papers with these thick magazines and this made the paper sack so heavy! Otherwise, the job wasn't bad. It's nice to have experiences like that I think. Andrew

I was never a papergirl but my brother was a paperboy when he was about 14 or 15. I got to help out by folding them and sometimes when it rained I got to go in the car with them when he and Mom delivered them. He eventually stopped b/c he didn't like having to get up so early in the morning. ~~IN SEARCH OF PEACE WITHIN~~ **AGAINST THE STORMS, I WILL STAND STRONG**

I remember my paper job well. I didn't like the early mornings so much but I did like the few friends that I made. It's a good job really when you think about it. It gets you out in the fresh air and also, it introduces you to what it eventually will be like to work! I really miss that job! Andrew

Though tough but satisfactory a Paper boy job. Think you distribute the latest news and stories to the people and if any bod get read some special thing for them or relating to them or their children they must be thanking you or praying good for you and with their prayer you getting some thing more from the god.

I was never a paper boy but enjoyed reading your experiences. Though I had several paper boys deliver my paper over the years. That's as close as I came.

Hi, it's a shame you never experienced the thrill of that. I used to have some good conversations with the people I distributed papers to. I will never forget that German Shepard!! Many thanks. Andrew
