Here in singapore, we do celebrate quite a handful of festivals starting from chinese new year, which is the major event of the year because we ahve got long holidays for that.. lol =D And the celebrations will usually start a few weeks b4 the actual festival and there will be fireworks too, to embark the start of the festival ^_^ Other than that, it will be lunar 7th month whereby its also known as the 'hungry ghost festival', which there will be alot of stage performance going on, and alot of burning too.. lol =D Following which will be the lantern festival where most places will be decorated and lit up by those beatiful lanterns along the streets and on the actual day itself, we can see alot of kids walking with their lanterns.. lol

We have a bunch of music festivals here in Austin. The Austin City Limits has a week long show this month, in March there is SXSW (South by Southwest) that I believe is several weeks long, but mostly the weekends. Now they have split off the movie venues and have that a week or so earlier. I don't like crowds enough to go these things - well, and am not THAT fond of the music.
