I'm addicted to Organic Apples!

I've been trying to eat better over the last year or so. I've cut out nearly all fast foods, soda, desserts loaded with sugars, etc. I had been adding more fruit and veggies to my everyday diet and after a short period of time, I found myself enjoying salads and certain fruits. However, apples tasted kind of bland. Very juicy, but not a lot of flavor. It was suggested to try organic apples....and oh my, they are incredible! They taste like the apples I used to eat when I was little, full of flavor, very juicy and minus the shiny, waxy coating the fruit companies add to attract customers. Now I find myself eating a juicy organic apple everyday and I actually look forward to my juicy afternoon snack. I just bought a bunch of organic bananas and I can't wait to add one to my cereal in the morning. Has anyone else tried organic apples or eat any kind of organic fruits? Have you found they taste so much better than fruit grown by farms using tons of chemicals to make the fruit grow bigger and faster?

I have not tried them.....can you buy them at the grocery store or do you have to go to a co-op? I don't recall seeing them in the regular store..but if they are tasty I would try one!

I first found them at a Super Shop-Rite. They are right out with the regular apples, but they are clearly marked as organic (and they are very easy to spot, they aren't shiny like regular apples, but dull and not really as red as regular apples) The local grocery store by our house has a small organic section, maybe 8 feet of organic fruit and veggies. The apples in this store are packaged in containers of 4 each and they have a couple varieties. I think many groceries stores have sections for organic these days. Organic food is becoming very popular (and now I hope the USFDA doesn't "loosen" the requirements on what can be called organic) When I tasted an organic apple a couple weeks ago, my first thought was OMG, this is what apples tasted like when I was a kid! Try one, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by the flavor! But don't blame me if you can't help but buy more !

I love organic apples, too. They taste so much better than the others. I always look forward to fresh, organic apples each fall. They're expensive, but not any more so than junk food when you compare them. Wish I had an apple tree!

Oh, I hope your apple seeds grow into good apple trees! Wouldn't that be cool? I think, though, that most apples any more are grafted onto poorer stock, so when you plant a seed, you may not get the same quality of apple. Good luck!

I was just thinking the same thing about having an apple tree. My son took a few of the seeds from the organic apple , placed them in a ziplock bag and taped the bag to his bedroom window. The seeds have begun to sprout and I'm going to get some soil to plant the seeds in and see how much they grow over the winter (on the window sill) I didn't really think about price comparision for organic apples vs a box of donuts or my youngest sons favorite junk food, Cakesters. You are so right about the price being comparable!! The health benefits are tremendous also, If the old saying "An apple a day keeps the doctor away" has any truth to it, I know I'm going to have a healthy fall! Even my hubby is eating an apple everyday now that we're buying organic (and the he said the organic bananas tasted very sweet... I can't wait for my cereal tomorrow morning!) Thanks for your response!

MacIntosh apples are about the only apples I eat - they are sweet and juicy - unlike those grainy, sour apples that are called "Delicious." The Golden Delicious are all right, but only the Gala's come close to a yummy MacIntosh!

I love Macs also. But the organic red Delicious I had this past week were pretty good. I just bought some organic Galas today and I agree with you, they are close to Macs. It is just amazing to me that there is such a HUGE difference in the taste between organic and regular apples. The flavor of a regular apple isn't even close. Thanks for your comment!

Oh yeah, much much better..I only had 2 apples this year on my tree, but I could taste a big difference since I don't spray anything on my trees, it was very organic and much healthier than eatnig pesticides and wax...

So true!! And who really knows what they're putting in the fertilizers to make the apples grow faster and bigger? In my opinion, it's worth spending the extra money (when I can) to buy something that is better for us to eat and so much tastier! Thanks for your response!

I think organic bananas taste much better than the regular ones, but some of the regular bananas aren't grown much different than organic. Apples are much different though, and organic apples have a lot more flavor than than regular apples and I believe it's because of the way they are grown. Thanks for your comment!
