I agree that gadgets are very handy today for communication. As for breaking up, I think its still best to go to him/her face to face as to just show respect rather than just texting. I guess it would be ok also if you could call to talk about breaking up rather than texting.

gadgets make thing go faster. They neither make or break anything. So everything is speedier. If one wants to break up gadgets is neither a hindrance nor an aide in it. And if gadget is the medium for breaking up it has to be taken with a pinch of salt as this can only be justifiable if the said relationship built with texting only and not just initiated by it. in a nutshell if one has made the relationship just by texting, then break it with it no problem. But if it is your heart that started it how can you even think of breaking up?

well, for me its really depends on the person, If the relationship start with texting i guess it also okay to end with it trugh text for texing is not so realable, but when it is done other way around, it is better to talk with the person personally for you can see the sencerity of what you talk about. Because when it was just in the text you cant see the true feeling of the person.
