Are there any good role models out there anymore for my kids?

What do you think about your children being influenced by our culture? Can you think of any good role models within popular culture? What do YOU do about steering your kids towards them? Away from the bad ones?

Thanks:) My kids are both saved and I am so thankful for that. My kids enjoy the original Cosby Show. It may be old but it is timeless.

There are alot of good role models out there. There is a saying that says 'Do as I say but don't do what I do'. This simple means that if one is encouraging you to do good then do it because remember no one is prefect. I tends not to look at role models because no one is prefect but I will read and watch motivation books and movies. What you can do as a parent is to motivate your child to do the things that you know is right. Help he/she with school work, if you cannot do the actually work then find some one who can help. If your child is interested in some thing that you know won't harm he/she then encourage. This is the reason I love my mother, she always encourages me even when my father thought the worse of me and you know what the one that he loves and worship is the one that is a failure. She encourages and support. Don't depend on role models because they also has a life which is difficult as well. All the best.

True. Our children should not worship role models. They are human and can fail. Thanks:)

Hello rocketj1 I think that David Beckham is a really good role model for kids these days, he seems to have a very positive attitude about getting kids into sports and helping England out with the growing problem of knife crime. His wife on the other hand I think is not a very good role model for girls as she is way too skinny!

Thanks:) I know who David Beckham is but I'm not sure that he is that popular here, as soccer is not as big here as it is in Europe. American Sports star role models are out there too. I'm sure there are more good ones than bad ones but it seems that the "bad boys" get all the press. I think this type of guy is being glamorized and sports is seen only as a way to big money. It seems that kids are way too caught up in fame and fast money today. I'm afraid that we have become a narcissistic society. Thanks:)
