Do you really care about saving the environment?

Recycling bottles, cans, and paper and using products made from recycled items are a couple of ways to do our part to reduce our footprint on this earth. Every day, I think about how I'm living and what I can do to conserve products and energy. Yet, I know there's so much more I could be doing. I get overwhelmed thinking about it sometime. What I want to know is, do you really (I mean, really) care about reducing what you use and not wasting energy? Are you trying to, at least make an effort?

I am trying to reduce paper and help in the recycling of paper too besides plastic and glass. I do believe that we have to strive hard to save the environment. Its our duty to leave it better than we have received it. Otherwise our own sons and daughters are going to suffer.

Hi ronaldinu. It seems that you are doing what you can to save the environment. It is just smart to recycle and to use as little paper as possible. I like what you are saying about leaving the earth better than it was when we got here. That sounds very noble of you. I sure don't like to think about people's grandchildren being left to suffer because I didn't do everything I could to conserve. Thank you for sharing.

I really, really do and I have for about 25 years. I recycled when people thought I was crazy, way before it became popular. I have always loved and admired the Native way of life of giving back to the Earth what you take. I can't understand how anyone can oppose recycling and keeping or home clean. It doesn't matter to me if global warming is true or not, we all have to learn to clean up after ourselves so our children can live in a better world.

Hello WhatsHerName. It is obvious that you do truly care about the impact you make on the earth. I like what you say about the importance of cleaning up after ourselves to leave something for the next generations. Yes, the Native American concepts do emphasize giving to the planet in ways that many of us from other cultures weren't really raised with. But they are certainly beautiful rules to live by. Thanks for sharing.

I will recycle and use those twisty lights, and keep the light off on my rooms, and use the back of the envelopes to write notes. I will also use vinegar and baking powder to clean mirrors, but I will never never never do what they do in Great Britain encourage people to not have children to reduce the carbon footprint. We can be frugal, but we should not be worshiping mother earth. God is in control and HE has made us stewards of the Earth, not slaves of an earth idol. I think of saving money. We have trucks picking up our recycled products, but we do not see our taxes being lowered because of that - so it is just a way of getting us to do something with no rewards. So I give my cans and bottles to our church school where they use them to buy school supplies. That is much better.

Hi suspenseful. Those are all good ways to conserve--the lightbulbs, using less power, and re-using paper when possible. Some people prefer to collect their recyclables and turn them in for money. That's nice that you donate yours to your church. Others, like me, enjoy the convenience of takeing recyclables to the curb. Thanks for sharing.

iam very serious about our environment we have to live here we all should be responsible in caring for our earth dumping chemical in the water are just throwing trash on the ground is a serious problem in the usa they need to enforce the laws more and people will start to respect throwing trash and dumping chemical waste in what we have to drink.reycling bottle is just a start of what need to happen people have trash build up around there houses we need to start cleaning wherever we are because it,s all our responsiblity to do that not just a set of people.someone mention that the rich should clean up please we all should have a hand in cleaning up.

Hello annijilena. Glad to hear that you are quite serious about helping to save the earth. Yes, it's a responsibility that we will all (hopefully) share as we've all taken part in doing some of the less helpful things to the earth. Thank you for sharing you concerns and intentions to be a part of the solution.

Hi clarizz. That's wonderful that you want to help clean up the environment and conserve the natural bounties of this earth. Yes, the nice little "kick back" is that we can save on our electric bills if we conserve energy. Take care.

Atleast I don't pollute my surroundings and try to make all possible efforts to prevent it, I try my best. If I fail, it won't matter, cause atleast this effort by everyone can make a huge difference, but many people think that people like us are there to look after the environment, why should they bother? We have to change this attitude of their, so that atleast they won't pollute.

Hello AamidMS. Good for you that you are trying your best to conserve energy and save the earth. I agree, some effort by each person is better than effort from only a few people. Much more education needs to be done about living green and if it continues to reach all of us, maybe more will adapt a different lifestyle. Thanks for your opinion.

I do my best to recycle as much as I can and have recently made my business into a green one selling products that are 100% recycled. I get really annoyed when people don't recycle as it is so easy as we have kerb side collections and all supermarkets have can/bottle/paper banks. I am proud to say I am doing better reducing the amount of consumables I buy. It is working quite well so far, I don't like too much clutter anyway so it all works out well!

Hello creative_genius. That is so cool that your business is "green." I, too, want everyone to recycle. It does seem so easy to do. I need to work more on the consumables--I still use paper towel and sometimes, paper plates. That's the good thing about striving to live green, it really helps keep the clutter down.

Yes, I care... I recycle, cut back on water use and buy very few things in plastic containers that will end up in landfills. We all should quit using styrofoam product as well.

Hi RhythmWalker1. That's cool that you do all those things to conserve space and water. Recycling is so important and I think as communities have recycling programs, we really will reduce the amount of items that go into landfills. I notice the hot chocolate my husband likes to get at Dunkin Donut comes in styrofoam cups. I wonder if they would make it in a container we provide. I need to check in to that.

Hello, For me, I will try my best to follow what the experts are saying, such as practicing the 3Rs. However, at times, it is very painful when it comes to balancing enjoyment and conserving the environment. Think about it, will you want to carry a bottle with you every where you go, so when you are thirsty, you can instruct the person attending to you to use your 'green bottle' instead of giving you a Styrofoam cup? Then after drinking, you take out your 'green' soap and 'green' water to wash your 'green' bottle? Sometimes, it is just tough.

Hello deltasswat1 8. That's wonderful that you practice the 3 Rs. Yes, it can be difficult to balance what we want and what we need. After all, we need to live lives that we enjoy. I know what you mean about carrying a bottle all the time. It is hard to avoid using styrofoam if you are a person that orders hot beverages when out and about. I sure have a ways to go to get where I want to be in terms of conserving. I tell myself that the things I am willing to do make a difference. Yet, I know I could do more.

Hello wiseshopping1. Yes, pollution is pretty bad throughout the world. It's horrible in some of the bigger cities in the U.S. I am lucky to live in a smaller community where the air is good. I agree that protecting the environment is our duty. Hopefully, more people will become interested in taking better care of the earth.

I do really care about saving our environment because it's for our own good. But then sometimes I realized that all my efforts were useless. It's only few people who are caring for our environment. Most of the people don't care. In my estimates, 95% of our populations don't care. Nothing would happen in our environment if this is always the case. But it doesn't mean that I am one them. It's only sometimes if laziness enter my mind.

It can sometimes feel like our efforts are useless when so many others seem not to care about the environment. But I still hope that, as time goes by, more and more people will become interested in living green. It's true that just a small group of people can make a big difference. I still work to try to conserve as much as I can.

Hi Pearl! I do a lot of efforts to save the environment.First thing is that,I wont throw any plastic bags outside.Even if I dont find a dustbin I will keep the waste with me and I will dispose it when I reach my home.Next comes Water- I dont waste water unnecessarily like during brushing and during washing. Then comes Fuel,I try to be economical in burning fossil fuels.Lastly I have planted a lot of trees around my home, our home is like a orchard. And I know that my efforts will contribute only a small proportion in saving the world (like 0.00000000000000000000001%).Everyone should do something so that we can save this planet. Most people dont bother about the future generation, they are going to blame us for the things which we had done to earth.Lets try to keep it green.God Bless all those people who love saving the environment.Good Luck to you.

Hello divinchris. It sounds like you do a lot to save the environment. I try very hard to use as little fuel as possible. The trees around your home sound really nice. I bet you have alot of shade. Thanks for your good wishes. I wish you the same luck. Take care.

Hi there, Yes i do. Actually a little bit wont serve the purpose. In india global warming is at its peak. U talk about population and pollution India is in the top and thus we need to take care of this thing and quickly too. Well we are short of energies here and we get frequent power cuts due to this. I think people needs to be educated what is global warming and what harm it can do to us as well as to the future generation. Plannting more and more trees is the only solution for global warming and alrmingly we are cutting tress. Cheers, Tutul

Hello tutul0045. I was unaware of the global warming situation in India. Those frequent power cuts sound quite annoying. Yes, we all need to be educated about it on an ongoing basis somehow. Planting trees is a very important part of conserving energy. Take care.

Yes I do......I try not to have any more lights on then necessary and am changing them to the energy efficient ones....I hardly have the television on when I am up on the computer. I recycle when possible.....and even make greeting cards from wallpaper sample books..instead of them throwning them out....I give them one more use!

Hi jillhill. It is so great to hear that alot of others out there care about the environment. I said in this discussion somewhere that I just get overwhelmed when I feel like I could be doing more but I just remind myself that I am doing everything I can to conserve. Wow, that is great that you don't have the TV on usually when you are on the computer. we have laptops going on the sofa while we watch TV. I do the same thing with lights and other appliances, I try to keep them off unless they are in use at the time. I love what you said about the wallpaper sample book. That is a very cool idea!

I do recycled arts and crafts. I recycle bottles, cans and newspaper. I try to buy the recycled paper, paper plates that have recycled material (but I don't like to buy them very often, maybe for picnics), recycled toilet paper, and I found some folders at a dollar store that made from a certain percentage of blue jeans. The folders are blue and feel nice. I also try to buy earth friendly cleaners or just use vinegar and baking soda when I can't afford them. The gas prices have made it so I'm using my car less and walking more. We give each other presents from rummage and garage sales or things that we made from recycled crafts or remnants that we don't want stores to throw out. Sometimes I feel like my family is the only one that is trying.

I am earnestly trying to make an effort to reduce the amount of things I waste, but sometimes it just seems that the more I reduce the more there is that I can't help. I just notice more as I try harder. I once wrote an article "What do you recycle" and had a person respond that she chose to use the first R in the RRR of living green. (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle). I started thinking about how much I could reduce, I've always been pretty good at reusing everything reusable, and then I'd have less to recycle. It's never ending and I think the more conscious we become of our behavior the more we can reduce our footprint.

Hey thebeaddoodler. I know what you mean, the more knowledge I gain about living green, sometimes, the more overwhelmed I get with the whole thing. I have to keep reminding myself that anything I can do is better than doing nothing. Yes, the "Re-use" aspect is so important. With just a little creative thinking, we can re-use alot of items that we would have just gotten rid of in the trash.

i think we are so busy in our lives that we dont have so much of time to think so deeply about the environment and hence what i feel is helping our environment is really important and we can just remember few of the things which can help our environment like as you tell the recycling of products everything, here in germany we have a very good system that we have to separate our garbage accordingly like we need to gather all recycled items separately like the bottles, papers, etc and the bio material separately and the other junk separately, and i think this system really helps saving environment and its a basic work and we can take this kind of a little effort towards our environment. and also planting is the next good step where we can save the environment and also make your house and surroundings beautifull. in this small small ways we can save our environment, if all people do it together.

Hello icegermany. You make an important point--we do get busy with life and may lose sight of what is really important. Your system in Germany for recycling sounds fantastic. Yes, more of us need to be planting trees. Maybe over time, more and more people will become interested in the environment. Take care.

I do believe that each creature in this earth is connected to each other, we are all affected on whatever we do to anybody and anything. Yes, since I was a kid, I already am aware on my role in the environment, especially when I was in high school where I participated on various investigatory projects. I love biology, and I love to help the environment. I do not throw my garbage anywhere, like candy wrappers, plastic cups, plastic bags, because it makes me feel guilty, my trash could be one of those trashes that cause floods. I try to conserve energy as much as I can like turning the faucet off when no one is using it, every drop of the water counts and I always turn off and unplug unused appliances. I really hope that everybody will care for this earth, this is all we have, God has given this to us without asking anything in return but to love it. "God made big and small things wonderful"
