I love rats! They are so cute! I consider them pets. I wish I could have one, but I fear that my cats or maybe dog would eat it. I have 3 cats, 1 dog, and 1 bird. And I'm surprised that the bird has lasted this long. All our pets are always watching him. Once he flew out and the dog caught him in his mouth. My brother had to open the dogs mouth to get him out and it's a freaking miracle that he survived. Now you see why I dont want to get a rat. Someday I wish to get a raven and also a duck. Oh yeah.

My favorite animals are cows and dogs for sure. I love barnyard animals more than any other. They are very intelligent even though you won't recognize it at first. I don't consider them pets. When you are feeding them, walking them, cleaning up after them, etc. You are the pet my friend. They are meerely animals.

LOL. I know. We are the pets. We're like servants to them. Foolish humans.

I have a dog at the moment. He's getting up there... we'll have had him 14 years as of Halloween. He's a sweetie though. He's endured my sister and I moving away and then moving back, not to mention having children (us, not him). Now he deals with kids who don't always play nice with him the way they should, but he puts up with it like a trooper. Such a great dog. On the subject of rats... one of my best friends has several. In fact, between him, his daughter and his mother there are 23 pet rats. Whenever I go over his house, I talk and play with them if there's time (sometimes it's just a quick stop to pick something up). But I'm a huge rats as pets fan. I think they're amazing animals and so affectionate. One of the last times I was over, his oldest rat (Gizmo) was grooming me. It was so sweet. When I'm able to, I plan on getting a couple for myself. In the meantime, I'll learn as much about caring for them as I possibly can.

We have a lot of cats and a dog here at home. We let them roam around the house freely.

I have quite a few pets as well. I have 4 dogs, one shepherd/husky, one blue/red heeler, and two papillons. I have 2 cats, a cockatiel, a yellow ear slider turtle, a rabbit and a 45 gallon fish tank full of different kind of fish. In the past I have also owned chinchillas, hedgehog, chameleon and other dogs, cats, bunnies, mice, and gerbils.

Chameleons do take a fair amount care. Of course they eat crickets so that would be the food. They also need a heat lamp and or rock. They also need branches etc in their habitat. And somewhat often they should be misted. But he was so cool to own. I really miss him. I hope that helps.

I asked for a gerbil and my boyfriend bought me a rat. I named her JJ. She was a hooded rat, with a black head and stripe down her back, and white everywhere else. They are amazingly intelligent. That's part of the reason it's hard to get rid of the wild ones. And I know you have seen them clean themselves, but most people don't believe they clean themselves just like cats! Probably nobody will believe this, but I had several rats (never get a male and female and put them together. They breed like -- well, rats). But a wild rat got in my house one day and Big Daddy, my big male, got out of his cage and killed it. When I got home it was on the floor and Big Daddy was waiting for me next to his cage. Boy, was I amazed! Right now I have 6 cats and a German Shepherd. I have had ferrets, cinnamon skunks, gerbils, hamsters, mice, and several different kinds of lizard. Sounds like you have a lot of love for animals. Keep up the good work.
