So to all you parents do you let your little ones cry it out, or do you pick them up every time they cry? Assuming nothing is wrong they are just crying.

I'm still a student! But I think you shouldn't pick them up when they cry.I think you should let them know that they should learn to do the thing they could by themselves.

A lot of people believe in letting them cry it out. They call it self soothing. My belief is that no I'm not going to pick them up every time, but half of the time to show them I still love them.I also have a lot of other things going on in my home all at the same time, which affects my judgment.

I let them cry. If I didn't, I'd never get anything done. My husband & I both agreed that we wouldn't pick them up everytime they cried... that's a good way to get your kids spoiled.

I couldn't handle the crying, I always picked them up. That's probably why they end up sleeping in our bed still most of the time. I would tell others to let them cry, but I would never do it :)

I think I do it half the time. I have 5 kids so jumping up and picking up a crying baby is sometimes hard. If he is okay, I would say about half the time I pick him up. I have some friends though that just had their first and they pick up at the slightest noise, I mean their kid doesn't even have to cry, just make a noise. I sure hope they wait a while for another one. I can't imagine running back and forth between two like that :P

Well it depends on the situation. If they have been fed, changed, burped and still are crying and nothing is making them happy off to bed they go for a nap and yes they will cry it out until they fall asleep. My 17 month old cries now when I hold my other kids and I won't pick her up then, I will tell her that Aliyah (my 3 year old) is allowed to sit on mommy's lap too. If they are crying because they need something then I will pick them up, sometimes they just want to have a snuggle or something. If they can talk however I only pick them up if I they ask me nicely first. I can't stand whining and I don't tolerate it!

I agree I hate whining. My 5 year old whines and I just can't figure out why. I don't allow it. However my mom told me I was a whiner to maybe it's genes.

My wife and I have agree to not picking him up every time he cries. We just talk to him to calm him down and play with him or do something that will make him laugh. We do not want to spoil him by always fulfilling whatever he wants.

That's a good outlook. I know so many parents that pick them up every time, and then wonder why they cry when someone else watches them for the evening.

I would let my boys cry for about ten minutes. If they didn't stop something was definitely wrong and I would pick them up. I used to take them with me everywhere but didn't always carry them in my arms. I used the infant seats and swings a lot. The boys would always be able to see me while I did the tasks at hand and knew they were not alone, and they got used to not always being held.
