would you rather lose your money or lose your IDs and other cards?

one of my officemates lost his wallet this morning. it contains a lot of money, in our currency and also some in dollars, and all of his IDs and cards including office IDs, driver's license, ATM, IDs in various government institutions, and a lot of other important papers like receipts, etc. he was sad from losing his money and his dollars but he was depressed over the lost of his IDs and cards. if that were to happen to me, i'd be more depressed too over the lost of my IDs and cards! it would be a lot, a great hassle to get new IDs and new cards. i would have to go thru the processing of documents again before i can have new IDs and cards. i would be glad even if the money is not return and only the IDs and cards. what would you prefer?

Yes, the ID's and other cards can be replaced but that would be such a hassle to have to go through all of that. I would not be have a lot of money like that with me unless it was when I go to visit my daughter and then that would be not as bad as all the cards and ID being taken. One time my mother's purse was stolen and she was more upset over pictures being gone that she had in her wallet than anything else. She did not have much cash on her at the time and didn't have credit cards only her driver's license and she got that replaced. But like I said, the pictures meant more to her than anything and she would have been happy to just get those back but of course she never got any of it back.

It depends on how much money. If it is say $5.00 or $10.00, I would say the cards. If we are talking more I prefer to lose the cards and start the process again.

i prefer to loose money than my documents. you can only loose the money but ofcourse not big money, but if you loose id or atm, it tooks a lot of time before you can get another one or maybe you can't get that anymore...

Since this discussion is about 2 weeks old, did your officemate find his wallet? I don't carry much cash with me but would prefer to lose the cash versus losing id cards and credit cards. It's easy enough to stop the credit cards by cancelling them and reopening later. I had to do it once when one of our kids had a credit card of mine and left it in the car. Someone broke into the car and took her wallet with my credit card inside. Not a smart move on her part but it happened. I wouldn't want to drive around without my license if it was lost or stollen.

i guess both.. i mean i dont want to lose the two items..but since you made us choose i rather choose the money than the ids ,atm and other important documents inside my wallet...since its too tiresome to request for lost ids and atms..since you need to report it then have to file for an affidavit of loss and wait for another month or so for the re issuance again and i hate the waiting especially if i uses those items every payday and the likes..

well it is very hard to get identification cards and it still needs some dough to apply for that, so it better that you just lose the money and not the ID.

I had my truck broken into a few years ago, and yes I was stupid enough to leave my purse inside. Granted it was tucked under the back seat where I thought it would be safe and unseen, but they found it anyway. I was definitely upset over the loss of the money as it was what I was going to pay bills with, but I was much more upset over the loss of my credit cards and IDs. Those are so important and people can use them to steal identities. They were replaced not too much later, but what an emotional pain to deal with.

I'd rather not lose both, but IDs are very important we need it to report the missing wallet or anything else missing :) still I can't choose any of them I still prefer not to lose any of them

I'd rather lose my money vs. IDs and other cards because money can be replaced, but the mess you'd have to go through to get a new ID, new credit card, new anything would be ridiculous.

I would rather not lose any money or ID's and other cards... but like you... if given the choice... i do not want to lose any of my cards because of the time, effort and money that i will use just to get a new one... money can easily be replaced... with salary or just plainly borrowing from others... but the cards and ID's is another thing...

I'm so sorry for coming in so late. So sorry to hear about the loss. Yes, I agree with you, for me also IDs and other important papers are more important than money.

It would depend on how much money you are talking about! I know it is harder loosing cards because it happened to me a few months ago and I had to replace all of them. There was only a few dollars in the purse that went missing, but I had no concern about that....it was all those cards that had to be replaced!

You are right it would a hassle to replace, but it can be replaced unlike money which is lost forever. I would be more upset at losing vintage photos, or knick knacks I sometimes keep in my purse. Cards can be replaced, money though lost can be earned again, but somethings just cannot be replaced. Hope not to have to experience any of these losses.

I am not sure to be honest! I think that the money would actually be the worst for me as what I have in mine has to last me the week so depending on what day I lost it I would be without money until the next week! I only have debit cards and my mobile phone top up card and they would be easy enough to replace so I guess it would hurt me more to lose the money.

I would be far more worried and upset about losing my ids and cards, the hassle and aggravation of having to replace them on top of the worry of ID fraud and someone using your cards to steal and worst! Your cards could be used again and you could lose even more money if they emptied your accounts or used them fraudently to buy things.

Probably my IDs and cards. I hate it when other people take my hard earned money. It is a really good idea to photo copy all of your cards and IDs and keep the copy i a safe place so that if you do lose your wallet or it is stolen, you can call the appropriate companies straight away to cancel your cards. I hate thieves, stealing money you've worked hard for while they sponge off others.

ID and cards...they are sooooo hard to replace. You have to do a cancellation...then reapply.....so it takes a while. What a hassle!

Clearly I would prefer not to lose the wallet in the first place. That is why I clip my with a tether to whatever place it is kept in whether it is my pants pocket or inside a bag or even in the trunk of my car. Usually I keep my wallet in a lock box in the car and just carry the exact items I need when going to an office or into a store. Money can be replaced, but the IDs and cards can be used to steal one's identity so I'd have to say it would be easier to lose the money. Plus I never carry a lot of cash.

That would definitely be painful to lose the money obviously but, the loss of your IDs I think would be most painful. I cannot imagine how I would react if I had lost my passport, cards and similar things. This would be the absolute nightmare for me! Sadly, we have built up our lives around these so called IDs and our lives depend on them now. Thankfully I have never had to face that situation so I have no idea what it would really be like. I hope that your office mate is fine now though. Andrew

I would worry on the money if were talking about a big amount but if the expenses it will cost me to replace my ID's and other important papers is more than the money i had. I will worry on my ID's and other documents ofcourse. But more often people who saw a wallet they usually return the wallet but dont expect the money to still be there lol.
